Jean Renoir was a film director and actor who made a number of films during an era where silent films were on the rise.  Born on September 15, 1894 in the Montmartre district of Paris, France Jean was the second son of a French painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir.  Raised in a family of artists it is no wonder why Jean took to the film media so easily, his brother Pierre became known amongst the French community for his work on the stage and in front of the camera.

Jean who later became a known screen writer, director, lecturer, author and historian made a number of leaps and bounds as he was considered as an underdog to the media.  For Jean his equation for success was unknown and his work all came as a surprise when it was time for release.  Not many people were in tuned to what Jean was doing or what he was capable of doing.  Starting out Jean made at least forty films or even more from the time he got started to till the end of the 60’s era when sound was later being introduced to the market all over the globe.  In the beginning Jean used the paintings of his father in order to finance the projects of his own, and in 1924 he directed his first film which starred his wife.

As time moved on Jean later became a known and flourishing director by directing his first sound film in the 1930’s era which was considered as a massive breakthrough and an opportunity for better things to come when it came the media in it’s self.  Jean received much acclaimed success with his films and has had the means to finance most of pictures on his own which was for that time a rarity in it own right.  On February 12, 1979 Jean Renoir died in Beverly Hills, California not before making his mark in history as one of the greatest directors of all time.  He was befriended by greats within the industry like Orson Welles and was also paid tribute by the Academy for all of his hard work and his great accomplishments he was able to inspire up and coming filmmakers.  When Jean died his body was later sent back to France where it was buried with his family in the cemetery Essoyes, Aube, France.
