Tesco to move jobs to India
MORE than 13,000 UK jobs have been lost to India over the past year, with supermarkets giant Tesco the latest household name to join the exodus and Tesco having made a record “Three Billion” pounds profit this year in England.
MORE than 13,000 UK jobs have been lost to India over the past year, with supermarkets giant Tesco the latest household name to join the exodus and Tesco having made a record “Three Billion” pounds profit this year in England.
Britain's biggest financial services union Amicus, with more than 250,000 members in the financial services industry, estimates that bigger moves are afoot in offshore outsourcing putting up to 200,000 UK jobs at risk over the next four years for increased profits rather than increase jobs?.
Most of the outsourcing to India has come from banking and insurance industry but Tesco's decision to move 420 jobs in IT and invoice processing to Bangalore is a sign that the trend to offshore is spreading into other sectors with company’s greed’s put first not people.
Until Tesco's decision, was revealed , Amicus had calculated that about 12,800 jobs had transferred offshore, mostly to India, resulting in 6000 compulsory redundancies.
An Amicus spokesman said: 'the majority of jobs being outsourced are not simple call centre jobs they are basic back office processing - it is any kind of modern office job you can think of.'
Wall Street banks have been carrying out trials on outsourcing some basic analyst processing work in India.
The biggest moves from Britain have so far come from HSBC, which last autumn announced 4,000 UK jobs would go in moving its call centres to India, while insurer Aviva soon followed suit with the loss of 2350 jobs.
National Rail Enquiries has also announced it will move around 700 call centre jobs to the subcontinent.
The food giant‘s marketing chiefs have shot dozens of new commercials for a new campaign that begins in September, I think all of England should boycott Tesco who are very happy taking your cash but also very happy at putting you out off work?.
