The Red Meat Dilemma
Moderate is name of the game when it comes to red meat! Even though red meat is high in protein, it also has the side effects.
I am not exactly a meat lover, but I do eat about an ounce of steak every few months. I cook with red meat, pork, and chicken. The meat provides the needed protein for our bodies. In these articles “Is Meat Good or Bad For Us“, and "Red Meat: Good or Bad?" you will find some interesting points to know.
After reading these two articles, I have divided from what I understood into two sections: one is the benefits, and the other is the risks. Though this is only a short summary on this red meat dilemma, it will give you have an idea how much you should consume.
Take a Closer Look at the Benefits of Red Meat
- Red meat has high quality protein
- Red meat contains the essential amino acids
- Beef has the best sources of iron which our bodies need
- Beef provides a good source of B vitamins, zinc, and selenium
- Red meat contains more iron than most other foods, and easier for our bodies to absorb than other sources
Think About the Risks Carefully
- High in saturated fat and cholesterol
- Red meat is associated with colon cancer, bowel cancer, gallstones, and gout
- Eating too much red meat can lead to rheumatoid arthritis
- Eating too much red meat may have a higher risk of osteoporosis and other conditions
Be moderate on the consumption of red meat! Eat more green, exercise daily, and I think we will be fine! The articles that discussed about red meat brought up many valid points, such as where you bought your meat, where the cows were raised, and what was fed.
