Trash Can Ball

Are you needing a quick game for a crowd of people? Even if you are not athletic, you can participate in Trash Can Ball. My youth group use to love to play this game. It's great for running out some of that extra energy kids and teens always seem to have. It's fun and easy to learn.

Divide your play area in half. Put one trash can (I like Rubbermaid because they are flexible and kids won't get hurt while guarding the trash cans) at the back of each play area. The two trash cans can be any size though the Rubbermaid kitchen trash cans are a good size. Put a line three feet in front of the trash can. This marks the goalie area (should be set up similar to a basket ball court or soccer field).

You need two Nerf balls, one for each team. Using different colors can add to the fun.

This game works best with six or more players.
1. You need one person to start on each team. This person tries to make a basket while the opposing team tries to keep the ball from going in.
2. The players not shooting a basket should be guarding their basket. This is the goalie. The goalie cannot step in front of the line marked three feet in front of the trash can.
3. The third player watches to see how many baskets are made for each team. Baskets only count if they don’t bounce out of the trash can. The goalie must toss the ball back into play immediately (either team can use any ball in their area).
4. If you have more players, they should be in a line and take turns shooting baskets.

Teams cannot cross the line dividing the teams. The players take one shot and then moves to the back of their team line.

1. The game can play for a set time. 10 minutes and then they can switch so the counter gets a turn.
2. They can play to a set score. Each basket is a point so they could play to 5 points.

~ The smaller the Rubbermaid trash can, the harder it is to make a basket.
~ Change things up a little and provide 20 small Nerf balls. Each team starts with 10 Nerf balls. They shoot until time is up or until they run out of balls. If the opponent’s ball goes into your section, you can shoot it as your ball. It is possible that one team could have more than 10 balls in their basket.
