This summer, save a bit of money by taking these energy savings tips and cutting out one of the biggest utility bills you have.

With the summer months fast approaching, the time to think about reducing your high energy bills is now. Electric and gas rates are skyrocketing and the Earth is steadily warming to the point of extinction, but, amidst all of the greenhouse turmoil, you can save a buck or twenty by making some careful changes to your daily routines.

Shop A Little Longer

When planning an outing to the grocery store, don't be so worried about getting and out quickly. The time you spend hunting for bargains is less time you are spending at home. During your trips to the grocery store, raise the temperature on your thermostat. This two to three hours you are gone will add up over a period of months and you will add money back to your wallet by reducing your high energy bills.

Tint the Windows

The majority of the heat entering our homes enters through glass paned windows. Using a good window tint to cut down on the UVA and UVB rays, as well as, the heat, will save money off of high energy bills quickly. Window tint can either be applied by a professional or by the homeowner. And, window tint is inexpensive. If you are worried about the tint looking too dark on the windows, don't be. There are many different varieties of window tints, from clear to mirror finish, you will find the right tint to help out that wallet come cooling season.

Invest in Fans

Fans, while they do not produce cool air, circulate the air in the home. Placing fans strategically around the home can create a circular air motion that will cool your home tremendously. With the fans in place, you will be able to raise the temperature on your cooling system and reduce those high energy bills.

Turn Off the Oven

Ovens are huge heat boxes. If you choose to bake, do so in the late evening hours when the sun has gone down or early in the morning before the sun rises; when the air is naturally cooler. If you must bake during the day, try to bake only for short periods of time and only open the oven door to place the food into the oven and remove it after the baking is finished.

Use Large Appliances At Night

Washers and dryers create heat when used. This heat will raise the temperature of your home quickly and cause your cooling system to have to produce more cool air. In order to prevent this from happening, only wash and dry clothes at night. For even more thrifty saving, hang your clothes out to dry on a clothes line. The dryer will produce much less heat if it is never in use.

While these tips may not save you thousands of dollars all at once, together they will dramatically cut the cost of cooling your home during the hottest of months. After some time, the changes will become tradition or habit and you will be reducing your high energy bills without even knowing you are being a thrifty home consumer.
