Free stuff. Everybody likes the idea and everybody wants some!

Free stuff. Every body like the idea and everybody wants some! With the way the economy has been behaving and the budgeting that most of us have been forced into, acquiring freebies seems to becoming more than just an occasional hobby. Hey Its Freeis one site that will direct you to various freebies and after visiting the website I was very impressed although I have not actually used the service and do not endorse them. I can also see how it can be very addictive searching the site and trying to get as much as you can. There are of course many sites out there offering freebies. A word of caution though, before you sign up anywhere, check the website details. A very good tool is the McAfee Site advisor which will alert you if you are visiting a dubious website. The Web Of Trust Firefox add-on is a similar gadget. When you type a query into a search engine you will see these tools highlighted next to the search results, and so get a heads up as to the nature of the site. These are valuable tools that should be active all the time when browsing.

As you research more and more into the world of the freebie you will start to see how overpriced everything is these days. Mark-ups seem to be huge and the relentless pursuit of profit really has affected how we shop and at its worst has brought the economy to its knees. Software in particular is so hugely overpriced when you consider how much great quality software is available for free, or open source.

People have always liked the idea of a free lunch, and to be honest, these days we deserve one! The way we have all helped the larger financial institutions in the big bail out and how many failed executives have retired with vast pensions when others have lost their own. All of this does make you want to stand up and say "OK, now it's my turn!".

As stated, there are many sites out there offering all kinds of great promises. Some are genuine while others are designed to take advantage of their visitors one way or another. So please read everything you can before you sign up. At best you might end up with a full spam folder, at worst you might end up paying for false promises. However, you might very well sign up to a good source and save yourself a lot of money with your free items. This of course is the ideal and the whole reason why we visit these sites. There is a need to be careful, read the Terms and Conditions and investigate the website by searching for off site reviews. Certainly never go by the reviews a site will place on its on space. They are designed to sign you up!

So give it go and see what you can find. Who knows the goodies that await you.

Thank you, John, for recommending WOT. There are plenty of free add-ons and programs out there that are excellent – thanks for highlighting WOT.

At Web of Trust, we are continually striving to be the best preventive protection against all manner of online threats. There is so much time, money (and sanity) lost trying to fix problems that malware, scams and unreliable shopping sites cause. The WOT community works together to rate sites and in return site owners are trying to improve, so it’s a win-win situation for everyone.

Please visit us at the WOT forum and introduce yourself.

Safe surfing,
Deborah
