Is it still possible to find an affordable health insurance policy, or individual health insurance policy?

If you are like most people and looking for affordable health insurance, you may be having a cat literally when looking at the prices for an individual health insurance policy. You also may be asking yourself, just how affordable is health insurance today? There are many affordable insurance policies out there for health insurance, but there are many qualifiers that have to be spoken about when dealing with health insurance and affordability. What are some of the qualifiers you might be asking? There are many different qualifiers when talking about affordability and health insurance.

The first item is your health. This is first and most costly of the qualifiers. If you are looking for an individual health insurance policy and your health is great or good, then you will be able to get an affordable health insurance policy. If you are not in good health, then the affordability just went right out the window. If you are insured at all, you will be paying much higher insurance premiums than someone who is in much better health. This reason is called insurable risk. The higher risk pattern you have, the less of affordable insurance you will be able to receive.

Something else that plays into this is your lifestyle and habits. If you don’t have a dangerous hobby or lifestyle, then you will be able to find affordable health insurance. Depending upon your risk rate, you may be able to find individual health insurance policies that are affordable. If you have a dangerous lifestyle or drink and smoke, then your affordability just went “Poof”.  Remember, this all boils down to insurable risk for insurance companies, which have to make the final decision when deciding to insure someone.  No matter how hard you beg or plead, the insurance company has the final say!

Another reason for the rise in individual health insurance policies is the cost of uninsured people, as well as the costs of practicing medicine such as prescription medicine and the costs of administering the policy itself as well as the cost of features such as prescription coverage, dental coverage and the like.  These play into whether or not you get an affordable health insurance policy that you can afford. So, while the price of insurance has gone up, there are many places and insurers that are holding the line at costs and keeping insurance affordable for the average person.

Research and knowing your risk category will also help you get more affordable health insurance.  If you know what your risks are or can change those risk categories, then you are well on the way to finding individual health insurance that is affordable without breaking the bank. Bear in mind also that many different insurers have different risk levels, so if you are not accepted by one, another one may accept you. This is all depending upon the risk category that you are in and what is acceptable risk for the insuring company in question. There is affordable health care  out there for those who need health insurance.
