A low calorie and nutritious breakfast that is easy to make and tastes delicious. This sandwich uses apple slices for the bun and a tasty sausage with melted cheese for the protein. Less than 200 calories and diet friendly!

I just lost 20 pounds! One of the recipes I developed was this low calorie apple sausage sandwich. It’s perfect for a quick breakfast or nutritious snack. This healthy alternative quickly became one of my staples throughout my diet. At just under 200 calories, it’s a great way to start the day.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium red apple (Gala or Fuji)
  • 1 Morning Star veggie sausage patty
  • 1/2 Slice Sargento's Reduced Fat Provolone Cheese
  • Cinnamon

A Quick Note: Did the alternative ingredients scare you? Don't chicken out before you've even tried the recipe! These alternative ingredients really do taste good and go a long way to reduce calories. I never thought I would enjoy vegetarian sausage or reduced fat cheese, but I absolutely love them. You won’t know if you don’t try.

Cut the Apple: The bread for the sandwich is actually going to be the apple. Set the apple on a cutting board so that the core is vertical. Starting at one side of the apple, slice a very thin slice and set aside. The next slice will be the top of your sandwich. The next slice after that will be the bottom of your sandwich. The slices should be thin, but sturdy. Cut the remaining apple in your favorite style for snacking.

Prepare the Sausage:
Remove one sausage patty from its original packaging and wrap in a paper towel. Microwave for about 25 seconds. Unwrap the patty and flip over. Fold the sliced cheese into tiny pieces and add these to the top of the patty. Microwave uncovered for 30 seconds. You should have a nice cheesy sausage.

Assemble the Sandwich:
Place the cheesy sausage on your bottom apple slice and cap it off with the top apple slice. Arrange the other apple slices around the plate and sprinkle with cinnamon. Enjoy your tasty, nutritious, and low-calorie breakfast.
