1. Aware of what you eat. Write down what you are eating and the quantity of every meal and between meals. You do no have to calculate or estimate the calories. Enough by knowing what and how much you have consumed. This is because, by being more aware of what you are eating will help you to plan a healthy meals and snacks.

2. Cut down into half, the intake of all pure and added fats. For instance, apply only half the usual amount of butter or spread on your toast, potatoes, muffins, and bread. Same goes to mayonnaise or sauce on your salad, as well as oil in the frypan each time.

3. Limit snacks and treats that contain sugar to 3 times in a week, such as ice cream, cake, pastries, chocolate, desserts, cookies, etc.

4. Choose lower fat source of protein at most meals. For instance, fish, beans, chicken or cottage cheese. Try NOT to take red meat, nuts and egss on a daily basis.

5. Increase the amount of grains, vegetables and beans in every meal. This will increase fiber and reduce fat. If you are used to have meat or cheese every day, you have to cut it down.

6. Choose lower fat milk. If you are currently taking up whole milk, you can choose milk with 2% fat. Gradually lessen it to 1% fat. Same goes to cheese and yogurt. Choose the ones contain lower fat. When buying yogurt, pick the one without sugar.

7. Make a habit to have at least 2 servings of fruit every day, either for dessert of snakcs.

8. Replace sodas, milky drinks, juices, or alcohol with water. Avoid diet soda because the sweet taste will make you to crave sugar. You can try hot water with a slice of lemon in the morning. It can be very refreshing.

9. Take 2 servings of vegetables, for lunch and dinnner. If you feel hungry, take more.

10. Consume your food slowly. Take time for your meal and enjoy every bite of it. If you are eating fast, you will tend to each more.

11. Replace whole carrot with grated carrot. Grated carrot is more filling and makes a great snack. Strange but true.

12. Pick whole grains, whenever possible. Whole grains contain high fiber which will give you fuller feeling and improve digestion.

13. Choose food that you can chew. Chewing will make you feel more satisfied. For example, eating fruit instead of drinking juice. If you have soup, make sure it is chunky.

14. Plan what you want to take for meals and snacks, a head of time. Planning will make you avoid unnecessary food. Same goes to shopping. When buying groceries, make a list and stick to it. Do not shop when you are hungry, this is because when you are hungry you tend to choose high calorie food.

15. Do not eat while watching TV, either during meals of snacks. When eating while watching tv, we are much less aware of what we are eating. Thus, we tend to eat more.
