With Thanksgiving right around the corner a lot of families will be soon gearing up to plan their Thanksgiving dinner. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because I get spend it with my loved ones and of course it always nice to see those family members that only travel only during the holidays. One of our many family traditions is to deep- fry our turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Things You Will Need

·       Turkey–Size 10-15 pounds

·       Deep Fryer

·       Peanut Oil

·       Cooking Thermometer

·       Meat Injector

·       Marinade Sauce

Deep – Frying a turkey is southern tradition and is becoming more and more popular nowadays. I am sure you have all seen the Allstate commercials stating how many fires have been caused during the holidays as a result of frying a turkey. Always remember saftey first. Frying a turkey can be messy and hazardous if your not careful, I really have to STRESS that you must be careful and take your time and fry your turkey outdoors and Always keep a fire extinguisher nearby. Deep Fried Turkey are very moist, crispy, and delicious. The Turkey is the most important dish so lets make sure we outdo ourselves this year.

Step 1  - Turkey Fryer

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Step5

 - Fry That Turkey – It takes approximately 45 minutes to fry a turkey. (3 ½ minutes per pound) Make sure you have your meat thermometer handy. Heat your oil to about 400 degrees. Once your fryer is heated start by placing your turkey in the drain basket neck end first and lower the basket into the oil. Make sure the turkey is fully covered with oil. When done, slowly remove the basket from the oil and drain the turkey. Using your meat thermometer insert it into the thickest part of the thigh and check the temperature it should be 180 degrees if not return to the oil and cook longer and repeat this step. Once your turkey has drained it is ready to serve and enjoy. Happy Holidays

-Inject with Flavor – To give your turkey that great taste, you want to inject your turkey the day before and let the juices marinade. You want to inject your turkey with liquid marinade sauce, and the choice is up to you. We generally inject our turkey 12-24 hours before, but you can inject your turkey 36, but 12 hours should be the minimum to get that flavor. Make sure to refrigerate your turkey until it is ready to be cooked. You want to make sure you properly inject your turkey, you don’t want to break your meat injector, be sure to lift the skin and inject the turkey in several places…Spread the Love as I like to say.

 - Oil – For a traditional southern turkey, you want to purchase peanut oil, it gives the turkey the best flavor. The cost of the peanut oil is more expensive but the taste is well worth it, believe me you will not regret it! You want to make sure you have enough oil to fry your turkey. You will need at least 3 gallons of oil and you want to make sure you cover the turkey and leave room you don’t want to cause any spills. A rule of thumb, if your not sure how much grease you need. Place your turkey in the fryer and pour cold water in the fryer until the turkey is covered and measure how much water is used.

 - Size of the Turkey – The size of your turkey is very important, you want to make sure you choose a turkey that is between 10 to 15 pounds. If your expecting a lot of guest this holiday you want to cook two turkeys, don’t try to cook one large one, because you risk the chance of burning the skin trying to make sure the cook is all the way done from the inside.
