This article will explain, in simple steps, how to manually update your display drivers in Windows XP.

First, you will click on the "Start" button, in the lower left corner of your screen. When you do, a Rectangular window will pop up. This window is divided into two vertical columns. In the right column, just below "My Computer", and just above "Set Program Access and Defaults", you will see a button that says "Control Panel". Click it with your left mouse button.

Now, you will see a window, once again, divided into two vertical columns. At the Bottom of the left column, click the option "Performance and Maintenance".

A new window will pop up, to replace the previous one. In the new window, under the header "Pick a task...", select "See basic information about your computer".

A smaller window will, now, appear, in front of the previous window. Notice the seven rectangles, along the top of this new window, just below the title bar? Select the on titled "Hardware".

On the "Hardware" tab, click "Device Manager".

Now, a new window pops up. This is your "Device Manager". This window has a single column of options. Close to the top of the column, you will see "Display Adapter". Click on this item to expand it's contents.

Now, right click on it's contents. Mine says Nvidia GeForce 8600GT, but yours will most likely be different. After you right click your display adapter contents, a menu will pop-up. From this menu, select "Update Drivers...".

A new window will appear. Make sure to highlight the circle next to "Yes, this time only", then, click "Next".

Your window will now have two options. Make sure to highlight the circle next to "Install the software automatically", then, click "Next".

Now, you must wait patiently, while the wizard searches for updates for your computer. This could take a couple of minutes.

If, after the wizard completes it's search, updates are not available for your computer, select "Finish" at the bottom of your window.
If updates are found, wait while the wizard installs them, then select "Finish", and, when prompted, select "OK" to restart your computer.

Well, we're done. That wasn't so bad, was it?
