Liposuction defined

Liposuction is a simple out-patient procedure where the patient is normally sedated by a local anesthesia technique called the tumescent. The tumescent technique has been determined the safest form of sedation using a highly diluted local anesthesia injected into the targeted area fat cells causing the injected area to become swollen and numb. This technique normally does not require post narcotic medication due to the long lasting effect of the anesthesia. Once the patient has been sedated the surgeon begins to make several small incisions around the outlined targeted area for insertion of a stainless steel hollow tub called a Cannula which is attached to a long clear plastic tube connected to a high powered vacuum. The Cannula is inserting into the small incisions and thrust in an inward outward motion removing the unwanted fat cells. After all the fat cells have been removed their maybe small layers of excess skin remaining which is folded doubled over, tucked and then sown. The post operation results can be a surprising change in body tone once revealed after several days of healing. Liposuction has been a successful procedure for many although, the results may be only temporary without adding a proper diet and exercise routine.

Liposuction is not recommended for everyone

Liposuction however is not recommended for everyone especially those who suffer from obesity a genetically linked disease limiting those with obesity to very few options of weight lose. Millions of men, women and children have the obesity gene which gives the person an empty stomach feeling even after a full meal. Exercise and diet usually turns out being a free fall for most who are obese sending them into a constant eating splurge and a deep depression. The cost may be a determining factor in the process of researching liposuction. Cost may fluctuate from one clinic to the next with the quality of work and skills of the surgeon varying as well with the ultimate goal of going through with the surgery is to be completely satisfied with your physical appearance. The majority of insurance company policies do not cover any cosmetic surgery making it a 100% out of pocket expense. In the end a price tag cannot be placed on patient satisfaction.

Possible liposuction repercussions

Excessive same day liposuction has proved to be extremely dangerous resulting in patient death. Prolonged exposure to anesthesia can cause serious complications. PRE-PROCEDURE

All liposuction clinics will have their own pre-op preparation list for the day prior of the surgery in addition the surgeon should go over the complete details step-by-step with patient acknowledgement of understanding.

Basic pre-op preparation

• Avoid taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication

• Quit smoking 2 weeks prior to procedure

• Arrange for a driver after post-op

• Have someone available to care for you post-op at home

• Fill all medication before pre-op

• Have wound ointment, heating pad and ice available

• Have any home necessities within reach of your home recovery area

• Prepare at least a week of food ready to heat and eat

Loose clothing is recommended after post-op to avoid slowing the healing process. Be sure to have a doctor’s note written for at least a 2 week period.

Is liposuction for you?

If your one who is dissatisfied with your physical appearance and lack the motivation, time and effort that diet and exercise require then liposuction maybe the easy way for you to achieve your physical appearance goals.
