Turquoise water, sandy beaches, beautiful bays with magnificent views - A true treasure of the West

Lake Tahoe Beaches and its surroundings are part of a colorful past.

Some of Lake Tahoe's Beaches actually remind me a bit of the Caribbean Island Virgin Gorda, turquoise waters, sandy beaches and huge boulders that had formed lagoons.

When I visited Lake Tahoe for the first time I decided to drive around the entire lake to find my favorite Lake Tahoe beach. Most of the highway follows the shoreline with a few exceptions, mainly on the eastern side of the lake. There are well over 30 beaches and it took me an entire day to explore them all.

The beauty of the lake, its sandy beaches and the spectacular view it offered had exceeded my expectations by far. I was overwhelmed by its presence. Cabins nestled in between pine trees, lake-side homes overlooking the blue waters of the lake, shopping and dining, entertainment of all sorts and a list of endless outdoor possibilities from A-Z.

I immediately fell in love with this most beautiful treasure of the West. The only regret I had was the fact that I had not found out about Lake Tahoe sooner. I was hooked. I soon realized why the Washoe Indians visited Lake Tahoe's Beaches frequently to conduct sacral ceremonies.

Top 5 Tahoe Beaches

It was quite a task to pick the best Lake Tahoe beaches. There are well over 30 of them and they are all beautiful and unique in their own ways. I have visited almost all of the beaches and could write about them all. While some offer a peaceful, sandy spot to relax, others are perfect for the water sport enthusiast. Many of the beaches actually don't allow dogs. So be aware when visiting with your animal friends.

My first pick is definitely Sand Harbor. I absolutely love its sandy beaches, the clear water which makes it perfect for swimming, scuba diving and snorkeling. Sand Harbor is located on the north-eastern shore of Lake Tahoe.

My second pick is actually made up of three beaches with Kings Beach being the biggest one. It is a perfect beach for kids and offers plenty of sunshine, beach and water fun. The beach area also hosts different events, including arts and craft fairs. This beach is located on the northern shore just west of beautiful Incline Village.

My third pick is  Round Hill Pines. This is the one beach where you shouldn't be bored. It has it all. Every water sport you can think of.  This is a great place of the active families.  This beach is close to Stateline.

My fourth pick is Meeks Bay, located on the western shore. I really like this beach because there is just something magical about it. You have to experience it for yourself to know what I am talking about. Besides that, it offers great camping or lake-side log cabin lodging, a marina and even a designated swimming area.

My fifth pick is beautiful Emerald Bay on the western shore of Lake Tahoe. Take an adventurous hike and observe the wildlife, scuba dive down to the Underwater Park, visit the Vikingsholm castle or take a boat trip to Fannette Island.

So which one is your favorite of all Lake Tahoe Beaches?
