How to make beautiful polymer clay spiral earrings.

Polymer clay is a great material to work with, it comes in a huge variety of colours and can be made into virtually any shape you want.

You will need:

Polymer clay in two colours.

Thick, stiff wire

Pliers

Ear wires (findings)

Step 1 : Cut 2 pieces of equal length clay (one in each colour) Roll them into separate logs.

Step 2: Roll these 2 logs together to form 1 log. Fold it in half and roll it again. Continue folding and rolling until you have the desired effect.

Step 3: Roll into a ball, place on a baking tray, if you don't want to put the clay directly onto the tray, you can line it with either foil or baking parchment. I recommend parchment as the clay will sometimes stick to the foil.

Step 4: Bake in the oven at 130 degrees C for about 15-20 minutes. Allow to cool.

Step 5: Using your pliers, make a small loop in one end of the wire, using your fingers, wrap the wire round the bead, spiralling it up until you reach the top.

Step 6: Figure out how long you need the rest of the wire, place your pliers at the cut off point and grip the wire and move it gently backwards and forwards. This will break the wire without the need for wire cutters.

Step 7: Hold the tip of the wire in the pliers and form a loop close to the bead, this will be the loop on which you hang your ear wires. Attach your ear wires using the pliers.
