How to make a bracelet from plastic bags and wire.

So many plastic bags are discarded every day, but you can make beautiful and unique jewellery with them

You will need.

A length of thick wire (or 2 lengths of thin wire)

Plastic bags 3-4 is sufficient for one bracelet

Scissors

PVA (elmers) glue

Acrylic paint or nail polish.

Tape

Step 1: Cut the handles from the plastic bags and cut down both side seams and across the bottom.

Step 2:Cut the bags into even strips of about 1 ½ cm. Stick the ends of your wire together with tape. Try to make sure there is as little overlap as possible. If you are using 2 pieces if wire, stick the ends together and then tape both pieces together.

Step 3: Dab a little glue on one end of a strip of plastic, hold it on the wire until it dries, you will need to keep hold of it in case it slips.

Step 4: Wind the strip of plastic round the wire, you should overlap slightly every time you wind. Make sure you wind each strip tightly. When one strip runs out, add another and wind tightly.

Step 5: Continue this until you have covered the wire in plastic. Put the bracelet onto a baking tray lined with foil and put it into the oven at 130 degrees C. Leave it in for approximately 15 minutes.

When you take it out, the plastic should have fused together, if it has not done that yet, leave it in for a while longer, but keep an eye on it as if it burns the plastic will become hard and burned.

Step 6: When the bracelet has cooled, paint with acrylic paint or nail polish. Finish with a coat of clear polish or lacquer to protect the colour.
