How to run Wii Homebrew on an unchipped Wii (Twilight Hack Method)
In this short article I will tell you how you can run Wii homebrew on your Wii without the installation of a mod chip (WiiKey).
This article is part of a series on modding your Wii/Running Homebrew. If you like this article you should check out the table of contents here.
So you're interested in running homebrew applications on your Wii, eh? You'd love to unlock the Wii's full potential but you just don't want have to crack her open and weld in an expensive chip to do that though, right? WRONG. With a few simple components and a few minutes you can be well on your way to unlocking the Wii's full potential.
Here's what you will need:
A Wii
An SD Card (Formatted as FAT16 or 32 (Comment if you want an article on how to format as such))
A copy of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (note: you only need to borrow this if you install the Homebrew Channel (article soon to come))
And here is what you will need to do:
Step 1: Download this file if your Wii is at Version 3.3 or earlier, and download this file if your wii is at version 3.4.
Step 2: If you have not already, start your first game in Twilight Princess. If you have already played the game skip to step 3.
Step 3: Delete all Twilight Princess saved games from the Wii system memory. If you would like you can copy it into your SD card and then into your computer to back it up.
Step 4: Copy the "Private" directory in the Twilight Hack zip into the root of your SD card. Also copy the Wii executable that you want to run (the .elf or .dol file) into the root.
Step 5: Now go to the memory management of your Wii and select the SD Card. Select the Twilight hack that corresponds to your reigon of the game and copy it to the system memory. (Note: If you are using a US copy then you must check the serial number on the ring of the disk and choose the corresponding serial numbered Twilight Hack)
Step 6: Run Twilight Princess from the Disc Channel, and then load the saved game. You will appear at the beginning of the game. Simply Run Backwards and your Wii executable will be run.
