Allergies are hypersensitivity reactions caused to exposure of our body to foreign bodies which act as antigen. Antigen triggers antibody reaction causing sensitization.

Allergies are hypersensitivity reactions caused to exposure of our body to foreign bodies which act as antigen. Antigen triggers antibody reaction causing sensitization.

Different people have different susceptibility for antigen antibody reaction.

  1. In atopic individuals, allergens stimulate antibodie which in turn release histamine. The first step is identifying the allergen responsible for allergy. Common allergens include chemicals and dust mites, pollens, ingestants eg beer, fried food, sea fish etc.
  2. Skin conditions, including allergies are diagnosed and treated by dermatologists.
  3. Treatment of the cause is the most. Avoidance of exposure to allergens will do good.

Treatment includes,

1. Antihistamine 2. Steroid ointment and creams 3. Vitamin C (citrus fruits)
