Ten super simple ways you can save up to $100 or more monthly, without feeling the pinch or giving up the things you love.
1. Entertainment can be one of your biggest expenses. But fun doesn't have to cost you a cent! Rent free movies from the library or watch movies free online. Or, start a neighborhood book or DVD swap. Check out Amazon for cheap book deals.
2. Stock up on craft supplies and decorations after the season ends and use for next year. Often you can find red and green scrapbooking paper after Christmas and Valentines Day.
3. Swap your stuff with a friend. Offer your services in exchange for things you really need. For instance, if you are an accountant, you might offer a free tax preparation to your dentist in exchange for a free teeth cleaning.
4. Save money at vacation time by swapping houses with a friend who lives in another state, that way both of you get a vacation in a free place without paying for hotel lodgings. And, the best part is, your home will be occupied during your absense, making it less likely to be burglarized.
5. Eat healthy. Cut out fast foods and focus on natural foods from the Earth, like beans, whole grains, fruits and veggies. Fast foods that cost $1.00 are not a good deal, especially when you consider the massive medical costs associated with obesity and cardiovascular disease. Most of these foods are loaded with salt, fat and calories. For a really filling meal, try a chef salad, topped with kidney beans and canned tuna.
6. Unplug your computer/electronics after use. Most electronics still consume energy even when turned off. All that extra wasted energy is bad for the planet and your wallet.
7. Never buy brand new items. Check out second hand shops; yard sales; thrift stores; Ebay and Amazon for the best second hand deals. You can find everything from baby clothes and toys to computers and cars on the second hand market.
8. Save money at the grocery store by shopping smart. Combine coupons with buy-one-get-one-free deals. Shop only at stores that allow double coupons and price match. Present your coupons up front. Check your grocery receipt before leaving the grocery store and dispute erroneous charges immediately.
9. Grow you own garden. You can save up to $1000 yearly on your grocery bill simply by starting a garden. Fresh is better!
10. Unplug your water heater. An average water heater costs up to $35 monthly for constantly heated water. And, even if you're not using hot water for dishes and showers, you're still paying.
Thanks everyone for your positive comments.
SandraW, glad you liked the ideas. You can also have a toy swap or clothes swap. The idea for swaps are unlimited.
You can even have a friends food swap day, where everyone gathers in one kitchen and brings three or four ingredients and it’s cooked up into delicious meals. Afterwards everyone goes home with storage containers of delicious foods.
I heard about this idea awhile back. Sounds fun. The perfect night-in for girls.
