Making a Windows Sound Recorder Recording

Go to Windows Sound Recorder (Start - Programs - Accessories – Entertainment - Sound Recorder)

1. Click the File Menu – Properties – Convert Now button.
2. In the Name drop down list select CD Quality. Each time you make a new recording it will default back to the previous setting.
3. Click back to Sound Recorder.
4. Click the Edit Menu - Audio Properties. Make sure the Sound Recording Default device in the drop down list is selected for the sound card or USB pod your microphone is connected to. Click the Volume button and make sure the slider is up near the top. Click Advanced if your recording level is too low as some microphones require you to place a check in the box (if you have one) for Microphone Gain or Boost. Click out to Sound Recorder.
5. Make a recording by clicking on the Red button. Dictate for 5 seconds. If you have an On/mute switch make sure it is in the "On" position. As you record, the flat green line should show bubbles as the sound comes through. Hit the rectangular black button to stop recording, then hit the playback arrow to play back the sound.

Sound playback should be clear and free of static or electronic noise. If not, check that you have set CD-Quality for the Audio Format and record again. If there is noticeable noise, you may need another sound card or need to use a USB sound pod
