Yam Laranas, one of the very few really good film directors working on mainstream Philippine cinema, is back with a new movie "The Road"
Yam Laranas is back with the movie "The Road". With a cast that includes Jacklyn Jose, John Regala, Marvin Agustin, Allan Paule, Barbie Forteza, Carmina Villaroel, Rhian Ramos, TJ Trinidad, Alden Richards, Wendell Ramos, and with Laranas writing the screenplay alongside Aloy Adlawan, this project has the markings of what should have been the proper follow-up to Laranas' first hit "Sigaw"

The story goes: when three teens disappeared in an abandoned road, the investigation to search for them led to the reopening of a twelve-year-old case. And as the investigation grew further, deep into deep dark secrets, it is revealed that the road is haunted by a brutal crime that occured almost thirty years ago.
After getting worldwide attention with "Sigaw" and its Hollywood remake "The Echo" and with his "Patient X" (which sadly did not meet expectations), Laranas is back with a vengeance with a movie which seems to really fit his forte.
The film is composed of three stories, covering three decades, three cases, all of which are related to each other to create one wholse story. In an interview with the Philippine Entertainment Portal, Laranas revealed that "The Road" is inspired by movies such as Stanley Kubrick's movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining, and Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho". But more importantly, the movie's storyline is actually inspired by various real-life cases, such as incidents of how parents neglect their children, and it is also indirectly based upon the kidnap-rape-murder case of the Chiong sisters of Cebu in 1997.
What's impressive about the production of the movie is that there has been a decent effort and took some serious time in its production. The film was originally set by the company for an October 20 release date, but Laranas talked to GMA's Vice President for Program Management Joey Abacan, asking for 4 more weeks for the editing and 4 more weeks for the scoring. Although it is not heavy on special effects, it still needs a lot of preparation. The release date was moved to November 30, 2011.
What ensures this movie to be really good is also the fact that Laranas really intends this movie to be marketable not only to Pinoy audiences, but to the international market as well. In fact, they have an agent who markets the movie in the United States, and had already sent out two screeners for a well-known film distribution company. On the same interview, he explained that there is an effort to make the movie in such a way that its audiences will not judge it to be something that they have already seen in other movies, and Yam does not under-estimate how smart audiences can be.
"The Road" is set to be released this November 30, 2011.
