Are you truly happy? Whether you are happy or not, happiness is hard to define. Happiness is an emotion associated with feelings ranging from contentment and satisfaction to bliss and intense joy. Happiness cannot be measured, but is achievable for all of us. People have always been misunderstood that happiness is determined more by our surroundings and circumstances. But it is not. Happiness is determined more by our minds and by disciplines such as helpful thinking and good habits. The following tips are a few steps that you can take each day to lead you to true happiness.

If you want to be happy, dollars should not be your number one priority each and every day. You should focus on how you spend your time. Forget about the pay raise. Sure it won’t hurt to have a brand new car and a bigger house, but the thrill quickly fades and you will start hankering after something else. Do things from which you will gain pleasure and satisfaction. Although we all have responsibilities there is no reason why we can’t live much of our lives in playful and take-it-easy manner.

Gratitude and appreciation will significantly increase your chances of
experiencing happiness. Be grateful and appreciative for what you have . Learn to love yourself. Surrounding yourself with your loved ones can help enhance your happiness. Invest time and energy into your key relationships. According to a 2006 report by the Pew Research Center in Washington, 43% of married people say they are very happy, versus 24% for those who aren’t married.

Live a healthy life. Eat well and exercise regularly . In fact, the research suggests you will be happier if you are more active. Gain adequate sleep and rest. It is difficult to be happy if you are constantly sick and tired. As an addition to that, it is also important to take some time especially on weekends to do something nice for yourself. Whether you treat yourself to lunch or going to spa treatment, or simply spend a few hours watching your favorite TV show with your family members, you will be subconsciously putting yourself in a better mood.

Do not let yourself down when something goes wrong. Try to figure out a solution instead of wallowing in self pity . Truly happy people don’t allow set backs to affect their mood because they know that with a little thought they can turn the circumstances back to their favor.

Many people believe that happiness is a form of luck and that some people are destined to be happy while others are destined to be unhappy. This is certainly not true. About 70 percent of your happiness level is within your control. Taking time to reflect, and conscious steps to make your life happier, really does work.
