How To Make a Halloween Costume Cape or Robe or Cloak for Vampire, Pirate, Witch, or Superhero for FREE

Make a Halloween costume cape or robe for vampire, pirate, witch, or superhero for free. It's so romantic and dashing to wear a Halloween Costume cape or robe for vampire, pirate, witch or superhero as your Halloween costume. It makes the Halloween costumes look adventurous and adds pizzazz.

For adults, kids, or toddlers, it's very fast and easy to make a cape for a vampire, king, queen, princess, bride, pirate, witch, superhero costume or even a Star Wars caped costume like a Jedi with lightsaber for free. If you are in a cold climate it will be a warm cape if you make it out of a heavier material or blanket that you already have. Depending on the size of the material, you can make a short, hooded cape or long, hooded cape. You could add glitter to make it more fun to wear and it would be a cuter costume.

Find the material you wish to use. A good width is 60 inches and at least 60 inches long. The length really depends on whether it if for a child or adult. You can also use a bed sheet that you already own. That way the Halloween cape is free. It can handily be folded up and stored until the next year and then used for a different costume. Follow the easy steps and have a great time on Halloween!

Things You'll Need:

  • 60x60 piece of material that you already own
  • A blanket for colder climates
  • Possibly a bed sheet that you already own, so that it is free, folded in half.
  • Brooch, clasp or large safety pin
  • Glitter if desired

Step 1

To make and wear a Halloween Costume cape or robe for vampire, pirate, witch or superhero as your Halloween costume, hold the material up and fold in half the long way. Keep your finger in that middle fold. This will be the top of the hood for the Halloween cape.

Step 2

Now open it up and place the middle fold on top of your head, letting it drape over your shoulders evenly, much like a tent.

Step 3

Pull it forward a couple inches to make a nice overhang. This will also make it look romantic or mysterious. At this point it falls straight off your head and may be awkward.

Step 4

So that you can move your shoulders comfortably, pinch a bit of the material on the back of each shoulder and pull it forward to make a 4 or 5 inch "shelf" on top of your shoulders.

Step 5

In the front, pull the edges of the "shelf" together and overlap.

Step 6

Pin through all the overlapped layers to secure the hooded cape/cloak. Use a piece of jewelry or a pin to secure it

Step 7

If there is nothing available to secure the Halloween cape, then hold the front together tightly with your hands, grabbing all the layers of the "shelf" and hood [removed][removed]

Tips

  • You can also wear this style with the hood down and it will keep your neck warm. It will look like a cowl neckline.
  • When you are finished with the cape, just fold it up and store it away for another day.
  • If you are using lightweight material, you may want to fold the top back a couple of inches so that when you pin it, it will be more stable.
  • If it is too long and drags the ground, just tie the ends in a knot to shorten them.
  • Vary the length of the material to fit the child, toddler or adult.
  • Use material or a blanket you already own so it is free to make the Halloween cape.
  • A longer piece of material like a sheet may drag the ground and a smaller piece should clear the ground depending on whether it's an adult or child.
  • If it is too long, it may drag the ground and trip you.
  • If you make the hood of the cape too large, it may fall around your face and you may trip since you won't be able to see anything.
