Which Fall/winter Fashion Style Are You?

Monochromatic wool outfits in grays or beiges, military-style coats, dresses and sweaters, men-style tweeds, bold and 60s vintage colors, capes, and fake fur vests, jackets, coats and accessories are all some of the fashion trends for this fall and winter. But the main color for fall is blue, no matter what shade or tone you prefer. Also, short hair is popular, whether pixie, pageboy, or bob. Oxfords, loafers, topsiders, and boots are the shoes to wear during cooler months. Linked chains for bracelets, necklaces and belts as well as bib and collar necklaces are this season’s trendy jewelry.

Although the main outfit will either be monochromatic in a dark or neutral color, the accent is on a vibrant color, sheer, lace, or print piece, whether gloves, hat, socks, shoes, purse or hosiery. Shorts, worn suit-style, with a jacket and trench coat, are still popular, but hosiery and booties or ankle boots as well as fedora or beret are added to compensate for cold weather months. Wrap dresses, coats, blouses, and skirts also make a comeback.

Bellbottoms, turtleneck, raincoat, knit hat and scarf, whether worn in a monochromatic color, a pale sophisticated color, 60s vintage color, or color blocking look retro and fun. A sweater that has the style of a down vest is a must-have clothing pieces for the fall and winter wardrobe.

Makeup for fall includes either browns or blues for eye shadow and eye pencil, pale pinks for lipstick, and barely there pink or coral blush on cheeks. Add some black or brown mascara to bring out the eyes. And, nails are in green or blue shades.

After the listing the basics for fall and winter, I will now describe four particular styles, Vintage, Traditional Gamin, The Artist and Wild West, for four very different types of personalities, and you can be the judge of which style best suits your personality.

Vintage women enjoy movies and fashion styles from the forties, fifties, sixties and seventies. They are often found hanging out at thrift stores, garage sales, and parents and grandparents closets. They seek clothes and accessories that have old styles and color, but updated and modernized with current trendy must-haves.

Traditional Gamin women enjoy wearing men’s clothes and accessories, but they still look feminine. Suits have accents on a sequin jacket, hounds tooth print and pinstriped as well as classic pieces, such as a round-faced watch. Oxfords, loafers, and topsiders, whether flat or with high heels, are the shoes to wear with suits. Suits can also involve shorts, dresses and skirt suits, whether worn monochromatic, or in black and white. Ties, fedora, beret, and caps are important accessories for this style. A plaid kilt, peplum jacket, and slim denim pants with a plaid print are some practical pieces for this style. A messenger bag, tortoise bangles, and tortoise eyeglass frames are some pieces that will complete an outfit.

Wild West women enjoy watching western movies, Little House In The Prairie, and stories about Native Americans. Particular items include clothes and accessories with fringe, windswept dresses, reptile prints, Indian design and prints, poncho, parka, cowboy hat, jewelry and accessories with feathers, denim clothes, fake fur clothes, trim and accessories, and turquoise and silver jewelry. Their hair is always long, loose, and parted in the middle.

The Artist women tend to express themselves with sometimes daring clothes, often revealing too much. A sheer dress with detailed floral design looks feminine but sexy. The accessories are just as artsy, but booties are preferred to pumps or stilettos. A knee-length pencil skirt in a vintage color is paired with a felt or velvet jacket with an antique-looking pin, necklace and earrings. Underneath the jacket, the blouse is either sheer or lacy. The hair is often glamorous in curls to frame the face, whether long or short hair. Red lipstick and red nail polish as well as black mascara and eyeliner is the preferred makeup for this style. Large black sunglasses are always worn with any outfit.
