The Guide to Wood Cutting in Runescape!

Woodcutting is a basic Free to play skill which can easily be turned into a high profit/low work situation once you reach level 60. However lets talk about getting to level 60, the best all around way as well as for profit and Power cutting.

When you first start woodcutting you can only use the Bronze and Iron axes. These can be bought or smithed simply enough and are generally considered useless once you reach a decent level. As with all skills as you progress and gain more and more experience you can wield higher levels of axes and what have you. ALWAYS use the highest axe available as you will cut faster and more efficiently.  For this reason I would suggest getting an iron axe right off the bat.

As you reach level 6 you can use a steel axe which can only be gotten by smithing or monster drops! You can also buy one off the Grand Exchange fairly simply. While you use your steel axe on normal trees you will reach level 15 fairly fast. The bonus to level 15 is you can cut oaks which allows you to harvest more then one log per tree (you click once and get 3-10 logs instead of 1 click 1 tree 1 log.) The downfall is they are worth much less! Oaks are only worth 25gp where normal logs are worth 30 and are much more abundant. You can cut normal logs just as fast if not faster but it requires more attention to the game itself where oak trees you can be semi-AFK. If you wish to power level I suggest oaks instead of normal logs but you will maintain a higher profit with normal logs as they are not only used for firemaking but for fletching as well making them a scarce commodity!

You have now passed the basic levels and once you reach 21 wood cutting you can use the mithril axe which cuts much faster then the steel axe. You can now take down an oak tree much faster and normal trees in about 1-2 hits everytime! Continue cutting oak or normal logs and I would suggest banking them all as both can be found close to banks and not competitive at all with other players. You can easily make it to level 30!

Level 30 woodcutting is really nothing to write home about, it allows you to cut willows. Willows are quite possibly the most useless log in the game. There is no money to be made and you gain more experience and money cutting oak OR normal logs. The only benefit to willow is at Draynor there are lots of willows right outside the bank and you can be doing other things while you cut logs. They only earn about 20 gp per log which isn't worth your time and effort when you can make 30 gp per log from oaks or normal logs. However the next level, level 31 you can wield an Adamantite axe which is pretty beastly for level 31 woodcutting you can mow down oaks and normal trees just like it was a chain saw and willows don't stand too long either! You should go buy one at the Grand Exchange as soon as you reach level 31 or even before! They only cost about 1,000gp.

Really now that you are level 31 the only accomplishments left for Free to Play players is to get to level 41 to buy a Rune axe which is the best available to non-members. After the Rune axe your next goal is Yew trees which take a long time to cut but are fairly close to the bank worth 400-500gp not to mention you could get a full inventory of logs with a single tree, you can watch T.V. while wood cutting!

Now we know all about what to cut, what to cut it with and how to cut it! Now we need to know where! Draynor is a good spot for normal trees and willows, the best in fact for willows. You can cut normal trees anywhere near a bank in runescape! You do not need a certain spot for normal logs. Yews can be cut south of falador, or south of the edgeville bank.
