We see the info mercials all the time but is it really that good. I can say that it dose a good job and if you need a second line or even your only line its not a bad deal. 39.95 gets you the Magic Jack and a year of phone service including your phone number.
We have all seen the commercials easy as one two three. Well believe it or not in this case it is true Magic Jack performs as promised. The set up is simple as can be. I wrote this article for people like me that were skeptics and did not know any one that had first hand experience. After I set mine up I called all my friends with it and no could believe how well it worked.
First you plop down your thirty nine bucks at the local Radio Shack if they have one in stock. Many insurance and real estate sales forces have discovered that this can be an important part of a mobile office.
No need to read the instructions just plugs it in to an empty usb slot. In a few moments it will be recognized and installed on your system.
In a few minuets a screen will appear containing the registration page. You can enter your name or company name what ever you want to show up in the caller ID. Pick the zip code you want your phone number to be from. This is a nice option if you have family in another state and you want them to have a local number to call you with.Â
Your email address is used to verify your account so make sure you respond to the email or your account will not be active.
Magic Jack account has voice mail that is easy to set up simply call your number hit * and follow the instructions. One of the really nice features of the service is email forwarding of your voice mail. Your voice mail will be converted into a .wav file and sent to you as an attachment that you can play on line.
Call forwarding to any cell or regular land line. Send the calls to your cell creating a seamless communication experience. The service also includes unlimited calls within the US and Canada. If you travel overseas you can carry a local US number and make local calls to home. Now that’s a wow feature
The software phone sits quietly in the background while you continue to use your computer. While using the phone I continued to use my computer as usual with no drop in performance. I have plugged into my lap top and desk top with no change in performance. I even used it in an older 200 P3 laptop    the Magic Jack and the computer worked just fine.
Sound quality I found to be as good or better than most cell phones. I have used it on a variety of wifi networks including; public library Bea Rock cafés free wifi holiday inn and at the airport. I found the performance to be consistent.  When your computer is off or your Magic Jack is not plugged in your calls go straight to your voice mail unless you have chosen to forward them to another phone
I can not comment on their customer service as I have not needed it. The web site has an extensive FAQ section that seems to cover most of your questions. It is a straight forward product that seem to perform as promised.
