The hardest things about dieting and trying to lose weight is constantly thinking about food! If you're on a diet program like Weight Watchers, NutriSystem, Jenny Craig, etc., it's all that consumes your brain - what am I going to eat today?

The hardest things about dieting and trying to lose weight is constantly thinking about food! If you're on a diet program like Weight Watchers, NutriSystem, Jenny Craig, etc., it's all that consumes your brain - what am I going to eat today? How many calories have I eaten, points, shares, protein, carbs, the thoughts go on. Add to the record keeping the other thoughts like - "I really want to lose weight this time!" Or, "I want to eat that hot, fresh, Krispy Kreme donut that my co-worker offered to me now!"

It's documented that we have upwards of 50,000 thoughts per day. Many of those thoughts are recurring ones. It wasn't until I started practicing yoga and meditation that I finally lost the weight that I struggled with for four decades! When you weigh too much, being overweight is almost all that you think about. I don't know who said this phrase, but I say it as a daily mantra - "Comparison is the thief of joy." Women, in particular, compare themselves to all of the unrealistic models and images that the media bombards us with (and they are crazy, unrealistic images). We interpret the message as, "I'm not good enough." This message then becomes, "What's the use of dieting?" Can you see how your thoughts can make you fat?

How do you stop the thoughts? - Through the practice of meditation. Overweight people can be extremely hard on themselves. Meditation is a way to be gentle and take time to escape from the busy, demanding world.

If you have never practiced meditation, a guided recording would be the best choice. From it, you'll receive step by step instructions to help give you the most benefits from your meditation practice. There is no right way or wrong way to practice meditation. It's very helpful to have guidance. Think of it as a meditation coach!

By clearing these compulsive, negative thoughts, you will make room for peaceful, loving thoughts. Over time, you will be calmer and will think more clearly. This can ultimately translate to food being sustenance not an obsessive, compulsive thing. Can you see how your thoughts can make you fat?

Food is one of the greatest pleasures in life. But when food becomes all we think about, that steals our joy from living. Don't think about trying meditation. Put meditation into practice and watch how your life will change.
