Diabetes is a chronic illness, which inclines to be more complicated and more serious as time goes by. Therefore, it is very important not only to people who are prone to it but to everybody to take note of the things that can help them veer away from diabetes.

Avoiding diabetes involves the development of healthy habits. Experts say that those people who have determined to practice healthy habits have less risks of getting the disease even if they are prone to it. All they need to do is to modify their lifestyle including:

1. Diet
Always remember, "what you eat is what you are." You have to practice consuming healthy foods and well balanced meals. Experts advise people who are prone to diabetes to eat lots of fruits and vegetables particularly those that are non-starchy ones like broccoli, green beans, spinach or carrots. If you are at risk for diabetes, you should eat whole grain foods such as brown rice and whole-wheat pasta. That type of food should be your main option. Also take more meals that has fish, calorie-free drinks, leans meats, and the like.

2. Weight issues
A person's weight is also an important factor for people who are prone to diabetes. According to the experts, people who are overweight have bigger risk for suffering from the disease. This is because they can build up high resistance against insulin. If they don’t have sufficient supply of insulin because of too much weight they can sooner or later develop diabetes.

3. Regular exercise
Many experts agree that people who practise regular set of exercise and workout have lesser chances of developing diabetes. Regular workout keeps a person fit and away from being obese. People who are at risk with diabetes should go through regular exercise at least once a week. It doesn’t have to be a regular set such as jogging, walking, cycling, swimming, doing household chores, or gardening.

4. Get rid of vices
Smoking and drinking alcohol are also one of the factors that increase the chance of developing diabetes. This is important particularly to those who have high risk for type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes because the toxins that get into the body make it tougher for immune system to cope up.
