Here are the smallest countries and territories in terms of land area.

There are 234 countries in the world. Here are the smallest countries and territories in terms of population and in terms of land area.

1.) Vatican City

Vatican City is a city located in a city. It is completely surrounded by the city of Rome, the capital of Italy. It is regarded as the smallest country in terms of land area with an area of .44 km². It is the “Home of the Pope and Roman Catholic’s governing body.

2.) Monaco

Monaco is the world’s second smallest country in terms of land area. Its total land area is 1.95 km² and it is located in southern Europe.

3.) Pitcairn Islands

The smallest territory in the world is Pitcairn Islands. It is part of Polynesia which is located in the Oceania. It is a British Overseas Territory and is also regarded as the world’s smallest dependent territory.

4.) Gibraltar

Gibraltar, another British Overseas Territory, is the 2nd smallest territory in the world with an area of 6 km². It is located in southern Europe.

5.) Tokelau

Tokelau with an area of 12 km² is the 3rd smallest territory in the world. This territory of New Zealand is located in Oceania.

Nauru, which is part of Micronesia, is the smallest country in Micronesia. With an area of 21 km², Nauru is the world’s smallest island nation and the 3rd smallest in the world.

7.)  Tuvalu

Tuvalu is one of the world’s smallest countries. It has an area of 26 km² and is part of Polynesia which is located in Oceania. Tuvalu is the 2nd smallest island nation in the world and the 4th smallest country.

8.) Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island is the 4th smallest territory in the world with an area of 36 km². This self-governing area of Australia is located in Oceania.

9.) Bermuda

Bermuda, a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic Ocean, is the 5th smallest territory in the world with an area of 54 km². Bermuda or Somers Islands is part of the Bermuda Triangle, a region of sea in which a number of aircraft and surface vessels have controversially and mystically disappeared.

10.) San Marino

San Marino in southern Europe is the world’s 5th smallest country with an area of 61 km. the constitution of this small country is the oldest in the world. It is also known as The Most Serene Republic of San Marino.
