Teen Advice: How Can You Tell If a Boy Likes You?

How many times do you find yourself asking your teen friends if  they think a certain boy likes you? Some teen boys are obvious about liking you and some aren't so obvious. The teen years are exciting, but also can be confusing when it comes to matters of the opposite sex. There are some things to look for to know if a boy really likes you.

Watch His Body Language

A lot of signs of being interested in someone else are found in a person's body language. If a boy smiles at you often, that is a positive sign. When he looks at you, he smiles, which is an obvious sign you make him happy in some way.

When you are talking one-on-one and he leans in with interest, that is a sign he likes you. He wants to be in close proximity to you, indicating he wants to know you better. A boy that likes you will also maintain eye contact. That is unless he is shy.

Do you find that certain boy looking at you, even though you are in a large crowd. That's a sign he's interested in you because he's deliberately picking you out among so many others.

Some boys will be nervous and fidgety around a girl they like. They may feel intimidated about their feelings, as if their feelings are on display and they aren't ready to let them be known. You may even catch him looking at you out of the corner of your eye as you look away. Your friends may see this as well!

If a boy gropes you, his interest is probably more in your body than in you as a person. A boy that genuine likes you will handle your heart and your body with care, gentleness and respect.

Learn from His Behavior

Do friends tell you that a boy often asks about you? That is a sign he likes you, but is a little shy to let you know.

If a boy puts effort in making sure he is around you, he likes you. He's going out of his way to be in your presence.

Does he do nice things for you such as carrying your books or being there for you when you are going through tough times?

Does he make special efforts to do things for you that you don't see him doing for others? He's trying to slowly get into your life through his behavior, even if he hasn't verbally told you he likes you.

Listen to the Way He Talks

Teenage boys will like you for various reasons. Some may like you for your body and not much more. Some may like your popularity and feel that will help make them popular, too. Some will genuinely like YOU. It's important to figure out the reasons a boy likes you. By listening to the way a boy talks, you can pretty much find out why he is interested in you.

A boy that genuinely likes YOU, the person you are, will show the utmost respect. He won't refer to you as sexy, but he'll refer to you as pretty or beautiful. A boy that uses a lot of sexual innuendos may very well just want your body. While you may be flattered by these words, they indicate a lot more than is on the surface. The boy that uses sexual innuendos is more than likely the one that will break your heart after using you.

Does he cut you down and pass it off as a joke? It isn't a joke. A boy that genuinely likes you won't cut you down. He'll build you up and make you feel good about yourself. A boy that genuinely likes you has your best interest in mind. He cares for your well-being and doesn't get pleasure from making you feel bad.

How He Treats You

If a boy calls when he says he will, he probably likes you quite a bit. A boy that wants to gain your interest as more than a friend will follow through on his words. He doesn't want to risk losing the chance with you.

When you are out together, even with a group, does he place his attention on you or is he watching every other cute girl that passes by. If he likes you, he'll be attentive to you so that you have no doubt about his interest. He won't want to come across as a player. He'll show you the respect you deserve.

Does he listen well? A boy that really likes you doesn't feel it's a chore to listen to you. He'll treat your words as if they are his own. He'll ask questions about you to find out more. He'll share what's going on with him, his interests with you because he wants to bring you into his life more. The boy who really likes you will want to hear about your dreams, your beliefs and what makes you tick.

Does he give his buddies more interest than he gives you? If he does that now while trying to gain your interest as more than a friend, he'll probably be worse if you start dating. A boy that genuinely likes you will let it be clearly known and will make time for you. He won't blow you off for his buddies. He won't leave you waiting by the phone or wondering why he broke a promise.

You can prevent a lot of heartache by being aware of how a boy talks around you, how he behaves around you and how well he treats you. Don't ignore the red flags. Respect is one of the key signs to look for. Assess his genuine interest in YOU before getting involved!
