How to Research a Doctor's Qualifications in Florida

Do you or someone in your family in need of a Doctor's care and need to check his or her qualifications? If your doctor practices in Florida, there are resources to help you do just that quite easily.

Do you or someone in your family in need of a Doctor's care and need to check his or her qualifications? Are you looking for a new doctor, a specialist, or even want just review the qualifications of a doctor that's been caring for you for some time? If your doctor practices in Florida, there are resources to help you do just that quite easily.

Perform a search in the Florida Medical License database:
From the Florida Doctor Qualification Search input your doctor's last name and select "Medical Doctor" from the drop down box by Profession. If your doctor has a common last name, you may want to fill in the first name also.

Ensure you have found the correct doctor that you wish to research:
From the search results, click on the License Number of the doctor you would like to research farther. Double check the address, first name, and other contact information on the "General Information Tab" to ensure you have the right doctor.

Find detailed information on your doctor:
Next, select the "Practitioner Profile Tab". This will take you to the Practitioner Profile Screen with eight tabs of information on the doctor you're researching. Review each tab (print them for further reference, if desired).

These tabs contain the following primary information:

  • General Tab - Contact information, if the physician participates in the Medicaid program, and the hospital(s) where they have staff privileges
  • Education and Training Tab - Education and Training, and Professional and Postgraduate Training
  • Academic Appointments Tab - This will show if they are faculty for higher learning in the health field.
  • Specialty Certifications Tab - This will include board certifications.
  • Financial Responsibility Tab - Information on malpractice insurance.
  • Proceedings and Actions Tab - Disciplinary Actions within the last 10 years (as posted by the physician).
  • Optional Information Tab - Committees, Memberships, Service Awards, Publications, Foreign Languages, and Other Affiliations will be listed here.
  • License Verification Tab - If the license is active, the license expiration date, discipline on file, and address on record will be on this tab.
