HOW TO RENT A CONDO IN HAWAII REALLY CHEAP!

By Casey Carlton

Many people have never been to the beautiful vacation paradise of the Hawaiian Islands. They either don't have the money for an expensive vacation, don't know how to plan, or where to go first. It could cost thousands of dollars in airfare and hotel and many people right now are not in a position to afford that. However they don't want to miss a chance to go. With vacations coming up, here are some tips from a Hawaiian traveler for really CHEAP lodging.

Step1

Whales are abundant here Find low cost airfare. It will take some research to find a low cost airfare to any of the islands. Try Priceline, Expedia, Sidestep.com or other websites to compare fares. If you watch the computer every two or three days, there may be bargains as low as $300-$600 roundtrip. Also allow extra if you are traveling from the east coast as airfare will be more.

Step2

Sweet scent of Frangipangi Where would you like to go? Waikiki Beach is the number one tourist destination however it is expensive to visit the island of Oahu where Honolulu, Pearl Harbor and Waikiki Beach are located. You might save those for another time.

Step3

Lovely Purple Flowers Same for the other islands of Kuai and Maui. Housing and rental cars can add up. The islands are beautiful but because nearly everything is brought in by boat, it can be expensive just for a meal. On all the islands, there are many chain stores such as Walmart, Costco, Sears, Officemax, and Home Depot among others.

Step4

Waterscapes The least expensive island is the Big Island of Hawaii. It is the largest and as far as land mass all the other islands of the chain could be placed inside the large island. The true flavor of the islands can be felt here. The World's Hula festival is held here in April every year. It is called the Merry Monarch Festival.

Step5

Many Beautiful Flowers The Big Island of Hawaii is also the most inexpensive. A great breakfast can be had for as little as eight dollars at the award winning restaurant Ken's in Hilo on the Big Island and at many other restaurants. There are many hometown tasty eating places very reasonably priced. Plus a farmers market Wednesdays and Saturdays for fresh produce, and tasty fruits not found on the mainland.

Step6

Many turtles here The internet will help you find lodging also. There are many Hawaii websites you can research to find inexpensive lodgings. One of my favorite is Country Club Hawaii in Hilo. It's a condohotel. Call information for their number. It is right on Hilo Bay and many of the condos, like number four twenty with two doublebeds and a small kitchenette, have oceanview and rents for less than five hundred dollars a week. It's clean and inexpensive lodging, right on the water, and has a swimming pool.

Step7

Green Sand Beaches Hilo is also closest to the Volcano State Parks entrance, the second largest tourist attraction in the islands. There are many exotic waterfalls near Hilo as it located on the wet side of the island, creating the lush tropical climate. There are black sand, white sand and green sand beaches on the Big Island.

Tips

  • Book as soon as you know the dates you want to go.
  • Book a flight into Hilo or if you fly into Kona, as on USAirways, you can pick up your rental car at the airport and drive the two hours to Hilo.
  • Buy some fun Hawaiian clothing when you get there. Hilo is the cheapest place to pick up some exotic Hawaiian clothing. Kona is far more expensive.
  • For men's shirts, be sure the pocket pattern matches the shirt design for an authentic Hawaiian shirt.
  • Take a warm jacket as nights can sometimes be chilly from the wind coming off the ocean.
  • Stop at all the fabulous waterfalls you can. Rainbow Falls is near downtown Hilo.
  • Snorkeling at the Kopoho Tide Pools is very adventurous.
  • Don't play on the lava. You could be standing only on a thin crust and break through. Stay on all paths and fenced areas.
  • Hide and lock up your valuables as in any city you visit.
  • As on any island, be mindful of undertow when you swim.
