HERE'S AN EASY WAY TO MAKE A WITCH'S ROBE!

By Casey Carlton

It's fast and easy to make a Witch's Robe. If you are in a cold climate the Witch Robe will be warm if you make it out of a heavier material like wool, fleece or an acrylic blend. You can wear black clothes underneath for warmth also. There are several lengths that would work. It can be either a short witch robe, medium, or long witch robe. Adding a hood makes the Witch Robe mysterious. Glitter makes it more fun to wear. Find the material you wish to use. A good width is 60 inches wide and a minimum 60 inches long. The length depends on whether it is for a child or adult. It can handily be folded up and stored until the next year and then maybe used for a Halloween costume. Follow the easy steps!

Things You’ll Need:

  • Black material either a lightweight or heavier for warmth.
  • Jeweled pin, clasp, or pin
  • Belt, can be rope or black belt, wide or thin

Step1 To make the witch robe, hold the material up and fold in half the long way. Keep your finger in that middle fold. The middle fold is the middle of the back. This way the robe will hang evenly on both sides.

Step2 Place the fold keeping your finger there, at the bottom of the back of your neck. Now open it up and pull each side over your shoulders letting it drape evenly.

Step3 Pull the witch robe forward in front. At this point both sides fall straight down in front.

Step4 So that you can move your shoulders comfortably, with both hands take the edge by each shoulder and pull it forward. Fold it back over itself to make a 2 or 3 inch "shelf" on top of your shoulders.

Step5 Pull the edges of the "shelf" in front together and overlap.
Pin through all the overlapped layers to secure the Witch Robe. Use a piece of jewelry, a pin or clasp to secure it.

Step6 For a HOODED WITCH ROBE follow these directions:

Hold the material up and fold in half the long way. Keep your finger in that middle fold. This will be the top of the hood. Now open it up and place the middle fold on top of your head, letting it drape over your shoulders evenly, much like a tent.

Step7 Pull it forward a couple inches to make a nice overhang. This will also make it look mysterious. At this point it falls straight off your head and may be awkward.

Step8 So that you can move your shoulders comfortably, pinch a bit of the material on the back of each shoulder and pull it forward to make a 4 or 5 inch "shelf" on top of your shoulders. It holds the hood in place.

Step9 In the front, pull the edges of the "shelf" together and overlap.
Pin through all the overlapped layers to secure the hooded cape/cloak. Use a piece of jewelry, a pin, or clasp to secure it

Step10 If you would like SLEEVES for the witch robe, follow these directions:

Whether you make the hooded or plain robe, you can have sleeves. You can accomplish this by belting the robe or by pinning the edges of the fabric under your arms.

Tips

You can also wear this style with the hood down and it will keep your neck warm. It will look like a cowl neckline.

  • When you are finished with the robe, just fold it up and store it away for another day.
  • If you are using lightweight material, you may want to fold the top back a couple of inches so that when you pin it, it will be more stable.
  • If it is too long and drags the ground, just tie the ends in a knot to shorten them.
  • Vary the length of the material to fit the child, toddler or adult.
  • Use material or a blanket you already own so it is free to make the Witch Robe.
  • A longer piece of material like a sheet may drag the ground and a smaller piece should clear the ground depending on whether it's an adult or child.
  • If it is too long, it may drag the ground and trip you.
  • If you make the hood of the cape too large, it may fall around your face and you may trip since you won't be able to see anything.
