It might just be a beat up used car to you, but to a salvage yard, your junk car is treasure. People who are restoring an old car or who are doing repairs also like to buy junk cars. learn how to get the most from your wrecked car sale.

So- your wife finally talked you into getting rid of that old junk car in the yard.   it was either that or she'd plant vegetables under the hood.  While that might look cute, it's probably easier to just get rid of it.  Who knows, the cash might come in handy.  There are a few ways to get rid of an old car.  You can sell it to a junkyard, or auto salvage place.  You can sell it on ebay or also on Craigslist.

Visit craigslist and place an advertisement.  Listing items for sale on craigslist is free and easy, craigslist.org is the website you need to visit.  in larger cities, you might need to verify your email address before you can post anything.  The on-screen instructions are easy enough to follow and in minutes you could be making contact with a buyer.

List your car on eBay.  if it's  a rare or special model that you hate to see wrecked, then you might want to list it on ebay and have bidders fight for the right to purchase it from you.  To sell a car on ebay, take tons of pictures and include as much information as you can.  Keep in mind that you pay for the listing whether or not it sells, so you might want to go visit car collector message boards or forums and advertise your sale with the people who might be the most enthusiastic about buying it.

If your community has a website where residents can share information with eachother like a message board, then make sure everyone in town knows about your online sale, so that they can save shipping and buy local.  Who knows, your old neighbor might have had his eye on that piece of junk for years now.

Call your local salvage yard or wrecking yard and see what they pay for junk cars.  Chances are, they can arrange to have it picked up for you, so you don't have to worry about towing.  Sometimes they pay by the pound for scrap metal for recycling, other times they allow visitors to pick-a-part from the car, like door handles or ashtrays.

Whether you choose to sell junk cars for cash to a salvage yard, a junk yard, a wrecking yard, on craigslist or on ebay or even to your neighbor, getting money for something that was otherwise just an eyesore is an exciting proposition.  Got any other junk lying around?
