Description:
Capybaras are part of the rodent family and they are the largest rodent on earth. Capybaras are semi-aquatic. Adult Capybaras usually get to be around 4 feet long and around 2 feet tall (from foot to shoulder). Capybaras have bulky bodies and they usually weigh around 140 pounds (female capybaras are usually a little heavier than the male capybaras). They have fur that is usually reddish brown on the top of their body and it is a slightly lighter on their underside. Capybaras have feet that are slightly webbed to help them swim better.
Location:
Capybaras are found in most of South America. Their idea habitats are by water such as forests and other grassy areas.
Behaviors:
Capybaras are usually found living in groups because they are social animals. Their groups are usually leaded by a dominant male capybara. They communicate with each other by making sounds and giving off scents. Capybaras graze in the morning when the temperature is cooler. Capybaras usually mate in the water and after around 130 days a litter of around 4 capybaras is born. Baby Capybaras usually stay with their mom for around 16 weeks before it is weaned.
Diet:
Capybaras are herbivores. Capybaras eat things such as grasses and fruits.
Population:
Capybaras currently have a stable and non-threatened population.
