Dog Breeds: Bichon Frise

The Bichon Frise is a cheerful puffball of a breed, they are fun and loving and very active. They were originally traded by spanish sailors in the 1500s. Although they are thought to be an Italian breed. They need to be groomed and kept clean. They are happy as an indoor family pet. They can be difficult to house train and may bark alot. They are usually all white with few other colors occasionally splashed on. They are about 10 inches tall, and weigh 10 pounts. When showing they are clipped to appear rounder. They are a very hypo-allergetic breed, and virtually don't shed. They make great companions with training and patience. They can be used as an alert dog, show dog, agility, and obedience... among others. They adjust well to city life if they are excersized and played with. They descend from the Water Spaniel, Poodle, and Maltese, and other breeds. They were accepted into AKC in the non-sporting group in 1973 and into UKC in 1981 in the companion group. They can be prone to eye problems so if you are considering buying breeding stock be sure to screen their eyes.
