How to make the perfect Tequila Sunrise Cocktail

The Tequila Sunrise is a refreshing cocktail to chill out and enjoy the beautiful flavour combination of the selected ingredients. The lime gives the drink that extra tang.

Ingredients you require for the perfect Tequila Sunrise  

  1. 20ml  Grenadine
  2. 90ml  orange juice 
  3. 45ml  Tequila
  4. Juice of 1/2 lime 
  5. Lime Slice
  6. 5 ice cubes

Mix the orange juice, Tequila and lime juice, and ice in a blender. Pour into a tall glass with further ice if needed for that extra warm day. Pour in the grenadine slowly and do not stir. Garnish with lime slice and cocktail accessories if required.  Serve immediately for you and your guests to enjoy.

Interesting facts about the Tequila Sunrise

  • The Tequila Sunrise is named because of the overall look of the cocktail after it has been poured. The bottom of the cocktail should be red in colour and the as you go up the glass it lightens in colour to almost a yellow/orange. It looks like a sunrise, hence the name
  • In 1973 the Eagles rock band released the single “Tequila Sunrise which increased the popularity of the cocktail
  • It was originally served at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, Ariz
  • The cocktail was created in the late 1930’s to early 40’s at the resort & spa circa for a regular guest, Gene Sulit who had a passion for Tequila
  • The original cocktail was made with Tequila, Creme de cassis, lime juice and soda water rather than with Grenadine
  • In 1988 the film “Tequila Sunrise” with starring actors Mel Gibson and Michelle Pfeiffer was released which also popularised the cocktail
