Tips for Speeding Up Your Computer

Have you ever had a slow computer? Every time you turn on your computer it takes about, a minute or two to load the XP screen and another one or two minutes waiting for the desktop to load up? Then you want to check your email, you click on internet explorer and it takes a while to load up? Do you get frustrated whenever this happens? Even if it’s the simplest task from writing an essay to checking emails to chatting and it takes forever for the program to start up? Well, I know a good way to get rid of that frustration and improve your computer speeds.

First of all, there are many reasons on why your computer is slowing down. Some of those problems are your own fault, even if you never noticed it. One of those reasons is restarting the computer the wrong way. The restart button is made for emergencies, such as if your computer is frozen and you cant do anything about it. Another one is from holding down the power button, therefore casing it to shut down. Also during restarts, there is a screen if you want to check your C Drive. It gives you 10 seconds to skip it. That is another reason for why your computer is slowing down. The reason for why pushing the restart button, holding down the power button and skipping disk checks is bad, is because turning off or restarting it without allowing the computer adequate amount of time to save and allowing it to exit normally can cause your computer to have scattered files everywhere. It also can damage the program. Skipping disk checks are bad because files can get lost via shutting down your computer the wrong way and the computer reorganizes it or deletes it from disk checking.

Here are 10 Steps on how you can speed up your computer.

1. Properly Shut Down your computer
2. Allow disk checks to happen
3. Defrag your computer by using the Microsoft defrag provided or by using a 3rd party disk defragmentation software. The one I recommend is Tune-Up Utilities. The Microsoft defragmenter is located Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk Defragmenter.
4. Clean out your cookies. You can use CCleaner to clean out your search history
Note: Cleaning out your cookies means that all your saved information such as passwords, unbookmarked websites are deleted.
5. Clean out your registry. You can do this with CCleaner.
6. Disable unneeded programs at start up with CCleaner. To do this, go to Start> Startup on your CCleaner and find unneeded programs to disable when you start up your computer.
7. Changing your theme and background to a much more basic looking one can help your load up times. To change the theme, go to Start> Control Panel> Advanced Tab> Performance Settings> Adjust for best performance.
8. Scanning your computer of spyware and viruses. I use Ad-Adware and Avast. The good thing about avast is that the free edition gives you a full license for a year.
9. In Tune-Up Utilities, there is an option that allows you to optimize your internet speed. It helps tweak your firefox or Internet Explorer to search faster.
10. Delete unneeded files and uninstall programs.

There we go. There’s my 10 ways to speed up your computer. Hope your computer will be faster.
