Maximize Your eHow Earnings and Increase Your Passive Income

Anyone has the potential to earn a passive income on eHow by writing "how to" articles. Learn what you can do as a freelance writer to maximize your eHow earnings.

Starting out on eHow can be a daunting task for those who are new to the website.  Most people (myself included) have read numerous articles on the potential earnings – ranging from a few extra dollars to hundreds a month.  And depending on how much looking you do, you may even find posts complaining about how little income this site can generate.

By this point in your research you should have concluded that eHow is far from being a scam and it is possible to generate income by writing for this site.  But how do you maximize your eHow earnings?

At first, this was an issue for me – my first month I earned a whopping $0.54 with 5 articles posted.  However, almost 4 months after joining eHow my articles are earning a small passive income.

So how do you maximize your eHow earnings?

Each Article Earns at a Different Rate

And some articles never earn a dime.  When you write for eHow keep in mind not every article will be a money earner.  I have several articles that are very popular that have never earned a penny for me.  But even though they have not earned money they have established my credibility as an article writer for eHow – and that can be equally as important as the income itself.  Since visitors know I am a credible writer they will be willing to read my other articles.

Set a Schedule

The more articles you have the more income you will eventually generate.  Successful eHow writers have hundreds of articles that generate passive income for them throughout the month.  As a new writer, chances are you will not have hundreds of articles to submit.  And established writers want to keep their archive (and earnings) growing.  The most efficient way to grow your article archives is by setting a writing schedule.  Make one out at the beginning of the week or month and designate a time where you can write articles.  For example, I have set a current goal of writing 3 eHow articles a week, and set aside time during the week to write them. Writing 12 articles a month doesn’t seem like much, but in a years time I will have 144 articles potentially earning income.

Also, sticking a to a schedule forces you to treat your writing for eHow as a job – where you are your own boss.  As a result you end up maximizing your eHow earnings by maximizing your time.

Keyword Maximization

Prior to writing your articles, know what keywords you want to focus on and use them several times in the article.  You do not need to use them in every sentence but attempt to include them in every other step.  Also, avoid using vague and obvious details in places such as the tips, warnings, or materials sections. (For example, you do not need to include “time” in the needed materials section.)  In actuality, by adding unnecessary information you will end up hurting your SEO and page ranking.

Create a Profile

It adds credibility and interest to your articles on eHow.  Also, it makes your articles relatable when people know something about you. Click here to see my eHow profile and articles.

Join eHow Groups and Make Friends

Not only is this a website where you can earn passive income, eHow is a place where you can network and be a member of the eHow community.  You can promote your recent articles, and learn how to be a better writer on eHow.

Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and Other Social Networks

Promotion is key to increasing your article pageviews – and with increased pageviews you can maximize your eHow earnings.

Rewrite

On occasion you will have a few articles on eHow that will never earn you a dime.  In this situation one of two issues may be occurring.  The first may be that your article will never earn for you – it is disappointing, but it does happen.  Second, your article may need to be reworked.  Do some editing, review your keywords, and wait to see if your changes make a difference.

Time

The longer your articles are on eHow the higher the page rank they will have on both the eHow site and search engines.  This will impact how much an article earns for you.  For example, one of my first articles earned pennies the first month, and increased gradually the longer it was posted.  Also, most eHow writers will tell you this is exactly how the process begins – the same article that originally earned pennies per month now earns dollars per month.

This article was written back in may of 2009, the ehow of today is a totally different place.  Can you still earn money at eHOW?  yes.  Can eHOW be trusted?  NO.
eHOW recently secretly mirrored its U.S site onto a new secret site, the eHOW UK site.  By secretly, I mean just that. No writers in the U.S. were told about the new site, and no writers in the U.S. were told their articles were being displayed at the new UK site.  In fact, no U.S. writers have ever recieced a cent from all the money eHOW make from ads placed on their articles while they were up on the UK site.  That is correct, eHOW profitted from articles and paid the U.S. writers not a cent.
But they also took it one step further, at first insisting the UK site had done no harm to anyone, and then refuses to answer any of the U.S. writers questions.  People began to remove their articles, and leave the site.  Others threatened to leave, eHOW was finally forced to admit some harm was done to the U.S. writers.  They agreed to remove all articles from the UK site and to take down all the U.S writers profiles, which they had no permission to place on the UK site to begin with.  That god an eHOW member stumbled upon this secret site or all the writers articles in the U.S. would still be posted there.
So by mirroring the U.S site with the UK site, what eHOW did in effect was cause the url’s to mess up.  Many of the U.S. writers articles stopped earning money.  Many lost hundreds of dollars.  The writers in the eHOW forums were in an uproar, and who could blame them.  To settle things, eHOW came forward with what they termed a generous compensation.  Many writers were paid under $10, and many more were paid under $1.  Say what?  How could this be?  eHOW explained it this way, “We are not paying you a generous compensation for the money your articles lost while they were up on the UK site, we are paying you the generous compensation for what we feel the value of those articles was while they were up on the UK site>”
You read correctly, writers were not compensated for lost earning due to no fault of their own.  So why was the generous compensation for most writers pennies?  Easy answer, as I stated earlier, when they mirrored the two sites, they screwed up the url’s, so naturally, most of the U.S. writers articles were worth just what they got, pennies.  To this day, people are demanding compensation for lost earnings and eHOW will have none of it.
So they did agree to take down the articles for which they had no permission to put up on the UK site in the first place, or so they told the U.S. writers they had all been removed.  but had they?  Many had, but many more where still up on the UK site, still earning money for eHOW, and U.S. writers were still not recieving any of those earnings.  Not only that, but as soon as new articles were written, they were quickly and secretly being cloned onto the UK site.  The writers themselves had to be the investagators and had to do all the leg work to uncover all this, and as more and more details came out, eHOW continued to ignore the out cries from its writers.
Finally, just recently, eHOW got the articles removed from the UK site, but the other day came out with a statement that U.S. writers profiles would stay up on the UK site, against the wishes of many of the U.S. writers.  After all, those profiles contain personal information, and no one, I repeat, no one ever gave eHOW permission to place them on the Uk site in the first place.  Just the opposite, writers have been demanding for weeks for their profiles to be removed.  EHOW stated yesterday,  ALL U.S. WRITERS PROFILES WILL STAY ON THE UK SITE.  We are inviting you guys to become part of our new global venture, eHOW stated.  Outraged writers again demanded their profiles be taken down, or they be allowed to go into their profiles on the UK site and edit them.  EHOW says no, NO, NO.
Does this sound like people you can trust?  Many did place their trust in eHOW, and sadly, eHOW has ended up stabbing them in the back.
What eHOW in effect is doing is forceing the U.S. writers to display their profiles, with their personal information, on a foreign site they do not want their profiles on.  And they are continuinmg to refuse to pay the U.S writers for all the money they lost due solely from ehOWs actions.  These people, by their very actions, can not and should not be trusted.
