You will often hear the term being expressed about certain individuals in sport, politics, business and other walks of life, that they are born to be a leader. But are leaders born, or are they developed? Is being a leader an inherent part of a person’s DNA? Or do people learn to be leaders over time from their experiences?

You will often hear the term being expressed about certain individuals in sport, politics, business and many other walks of life, that they are born to be a leader.

But are leaders born, or are they developed?

Is being a leader in life an inherent part of a person’s DNA?

Is it an integral part of their genetic makeup?

Or do people learn to be leaders over time from their experiences and education?

Maybe we are all capable of being leaders, but it is only the path that we follow and the different things that happen in our lives that determine if we are going to be leaders.

Throughout history it has been seen to be true that leaders can come from poverty or riches, from large national groups or from an ethnic family, from any religion, creed, colour or gender and from young or old.

Leaders have come from families where there have been no leaders before, as well as families that have had a history of producing leaders.

So what is it that determines if a person is going to be a leader?

If it truly is so that a leader is born that way, then that would mean that it is pre-determined and being a leader is a talent that has been bestowed upon that person as a gift.

Maybe all people are born with that talent and in most of them it remains dormant and only under certain circumstances that talent is awakened for a leader to emerge.

But even if it is the case that leaders are developed, they still have to have the right mindset and attitude, in order to become a respected and recognised leader. So, maybe it has something to do with what kind of attitude of mind a person has that determines if they are to be a leader.

Which takes us full circle, are those people that become leaders born with the right attitude of mind or do they develop that attitude of mind through their experiences and education?

Why not give us your thoughts on this subject; we would love to hear from you, so leave a comment telling us what you think.

Are there people in your office or community that you feel are born to be leaders?
