If you are a freelancer, your personal work ethic is of great importance. Here are some tips to help you improve this area of your business in order to make your entire business much more profitable.

As a freelancer you are going to find yourself facing some challenges that people in other careers will not have to face.  You will soon discover that some of these issues have to do with your own personal work ethic and how you go about organizing the work that you do.  Fortunately, this doesn't have to be difficult because there are some tips that will help you out in this area of your career.  These include:
1.You need to make sure that you have set scheduled working hours for your business.  This will not only enable you to walk away from your business at the end of the day but also keep you from being at the becking call of your customers.  It is especially important to do this if your office is within your home.  Your clients will try calling you at all hours of the day and night and you will only want to work whenever you are able to be the most productive.  Once you have working hours in place, you will be able to do this.
2.Make sure that you have your own computer and that you perform routine maintenance on it.  This is especially important since you will be working with your clients' sensitive data.  Proper maintenance includes having a good anti-virus program, with both anti-malware and anti-spyware, installed on your machine.  It also includes taking some time each month to back up your hard drive onto something that you can store separately from your computer. You will be thankful that you have spent time doing this if your computer should ever happen to crash.
3.If you have decided to charge your clients for the work that you do by the hour, then you ar going to need to find a software program that can track the amount of time that you spend working.  Thankfully there are a lot of different programs available to help you with this.  You are also going to need to decide how you will deal with fractions of time.  The most common way is to decide that if you spend an extra 30 minutes on something, then you will charge for an entire hour.  However, if you only spend 20 additional minutes on something, then you don't charge your client at all.  An example of this is if you work 4 ½ hours on a project you will charge for 5 hours while if you only spend 4 hours, 20 minutes working on it then you will only charge for 4 hours.  While you may think that you would be loosing money here, in the end this will actually work itself out and you will not loose any money at all.
