How to save money driving. Driving a car is now essential to survive the current lifestyle we live, driving allows us to maximise our time so we can do more and more in less time, however energy prices are now soaring despite the fall in crude oil. There are many ways to save money on driving by simply adhering to some principles. Here are 5 steps to how to save money driving.

STEP 1 - DRIVE WELL

By driving well we can reduce our fuel consumption by 33%, by not accellerating and breaking harshly we can save money as we can go further without the need to stop, some people argue that by driving with aggression they arrive at their destination much quicker! but this is not the really the case, research has shown that if you arrive at your destination 5% quicker we increase our fuel consumption by 33%.

STEP 2 - TYRES

Keep your tyres fully inflated regularly, with properly inflated tyres your circumference on your wheel is larger in distance, therefore it will cover more area given the expenditure in fuel. for example if you expend $10 in fuel with a properly inflated tyre you can go 70 kilometres compared to 50 kilometres using moderately inflated tyres. Try and invest in a pump where you can pump the tyre yourself on a regular basis so the need to spend money at the garage is not required

STEP 3 - ROUTE PLANNING

Plan your route before you go on a journey, your aim is to find the shortest distance with the least traffic, see if you can find any special routes or side roads that you can possible take if there is heavy traffic which will help you save time and money. Try to go through your gear change efficiently and ensure that the rev counter does not exceed 2000 revolutions per second, by planning your route and having an idea of how to change gears for different driving routes you are more likely to save money.

STEP 4 - WEIGHT/MAINTENANCE

Try and reduce any unnecessary weight in your can, remove any extra items that you have just placed as storage, by reducing any excess weight you are making your fuel do less work to get further and further. Make sure you maintain your engine, by having your engine running in tip top condition you will not be losing any energy, normally a efficient engine can produce 20% more horsepower than an unmaintained engine, by having more power for each unit of gas used you can go a little bit further.

STEP 5 - CONVERSIONS

If you want to take a even greater step to cut the costs you can invest in a LPG conversion kit, LPG is Liquid Petroleum Gas and costs about 60% cheaper than Petroluem. This is an ideal way to make the greatest saving however the conversion usually costs $3000 and a lot of space is lost in the boot of the car as it is needed to place the Gas Tank in, most Gas station have LPG but in some states it is rare, overall the benefits outweigh the disadvantages in the long run
