Mother's Day is coming up the second Sunday in May, but the economy  and your budget may be working against you. If a tight budget is threatening to put a damper on your Mother's Day celebration, here are 10 ideas for enjoying an inexpensive Mothers Day.

1. Fix your mother an inexpensive meal for Mother's Day. She has fixed you plenty of meals. Now it's your turn! Even if you are on a very tight budget, cheap foods like pasta, sandwiches, soup, etc. will be special if you fix it for your mother. Light a candle, play some of her favorite music, and spend some quality time catching up with your mom, or pack a basket and take her to the park for an inexpensive picnic lunch for Mother's Day. Cheap foods include: spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, pasta, sandwiches, iced tea, lemonade, and crackers.

2. Craft something for Mother's Day. Do you do crafts? Make your mother something! If you scrapbook, knit, sew, crochet, do woodworking, photography, song writing, or any other crafts/talents, create something special for your mother for Mother's Day.

3. Make your mother a floral arrangement from your backyard for Mother's Day. If you grow any flowers that bloom in May, pick some fresh flowers for Mother's Day. Look for some pretty greenery from cedar trees and other evergreens to fill in. Evergreens are not just for Christmas!

4. Frame her favorite scripture verse for Mother's Day. Do you do calligraphy? Are you handy with computer fonts? Why not make a pretty presentation of your mother's favorite scripture verse and frame it for Mother's Day? Inexpensive frames can be found at most drug stores and super markets.
5. Make your mother a card for Mother's Day. If you draw or if you write poetry or prose, or if you are handy with the computer, why not make your mother a personal, hand-made card for Mother's Day. You used to do it as a kid; now try it as an adult! Your mother will love it for Mother's Day!
6. Get an inexpensive book or magazine subscription for Mother's Day. Whatever your mother's interests are, there are books and magazines on that topic. Buy your mother an inexpensive book, magazine, or magazine subscription about her hobby or interest for Mother's Day.
7. Do some housework or yard work for Mother's Day. What needs to be done around her house? Clean something, fix something, or put something heavy away for your mother for Mother's Day.
8. Spend the day with your mother on Mother's Day. Make sure you are free the second Sunday in May. Take your mother downtown and go window shopping or to the biggest mall in your area. Take her to an inexpensive restaurant for lunch. Spend the day hanging out together on Mother's Day. Hanging out together is free!
9. Take your mother someplace special for Mother's Day. You don't need a lot of money to take your mother to a local park, favorite landmark, or someplace you know she would enjoy visiting. Is the house where your mother grew up within driving distance? Is there a cemetary where her parents or other loved ones are buried? Visiting a special place only costs gas money.
10. Give your mother the gift of YOU for Mother's Day. Most moms just want to spend a little more quality time with their teenage or grown children. Even if you don't have a budget for expensive gifts, budget your time so you can do something special with your mother to celebrate Mother's Day. Your time together is what will make it special, not the money.
