Discover Why Writers Lose Their Inspiration

Mar 17th, 2009 by JamesC22

Thousands of writers throughout the world will start a piece of work, by writing a sentence or two, then reading what they have written, writing another paragraph and then reading it all over again and in some cases they will begin a new piece, but it doesn’t have to be this way.

Thousands of writers throughout the world will start a piece of work, by writing a sentence or two, then reading what they have written, writing another paragraph and then reading it all over again and in some cases they will begin a new piece, but it doesn’t have to be this way.

Why was it, that so many wonderful, inspirational pieces of work were produced by the writers of the past? It was because they were creating their masterpieces mostly by hand with a pen and paper, or with an old fashioned typewriter and not the modern computerised word processor.

The modern computerised word processor gives writers the capability to write, read and alter or correct the work they are performing, as and when they feel like it.

Inspiration Inhibited

And this has lead to a situation where the writer’s total concentration is disturbed by doing the typing errors and by correcting the spelling and grammar of the piece.

This constant interruption causes the natural flow of inspirational ideas to be inhibited, which means that inevitably the writer finds that they are losing their inspiration.

Writers of the Past

What they should be doing is taking notice of how the writers of the past used to perform when they were writing their inspirational masterpieces.

Writers of the past would pick up a pen and begin to write and would not stop writing until they had fully documented all their inspirational ideas for the piece of work that they were writing.

No looking back over their work, no corrections, whether grammatical or spelling, all that came later, after they had totally exhausted their flow of inspirational ideas.

There is a Solution

The writers of today can also perform in this way, by applying a little bit of discipline to their writing activities. This will mean that they will have to concentrate only on writing the inspirational thoughts that they are having and to ensure that they do not read and correct their work.

Then, once they get to the point where the flow of inspiration naturally stops, they can then review the whole piece in its entirety and make any changes or corrections that they feel are needed.

Many writers believe that it is the productivity of as many pieces of work as possible, in a short space of time that will bring them their success.

But, if you look at the percentage of the writers who are truly successful, you will find that it is the amount of inspirational words in their work that delivers them that success.

With the advancement of technology, you can write, edit, save and then transfer your work to anywhere in the world.

But if you use it incorrectly, you may well lose your flow of inspiration, which maybe lost forever and never retrieved again.

Enjoy your writing.

I find that I can get many ideas to flow in many different directions.  So, as a result of this; I work on many different things at once.  It’s like multi tasking but, it’s for the writer.
