Making your own wine is a great way to use your fruit in a new way. It's much easier than you think! I'll be using plums in this example.

 Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 gallons plums(or strawberries,or peaches)
  • 5 gallon water jug
  • 10 lbs. sugar
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • pantyhose
  • rubberband

Step 1

Boil plums at full-boil for about 15 minutes. Until soft and squishy basically.

Step 2

After boiling, place plums in pantyhouse and strain juice through into a container.

Step 3

Funnel plum juice, sugar, and yeast into 5 gallon jug and fill with water the rest of the way till the jug is full. Put a thin cloth over the jugs opening and tie off with a rubberband.

Step 4

Place jug in a warm, dark place for 45 days. It doesn't matter how hot it gets in the room (your garage in the middle of summer is fine). If after a while you start to see it bubbling and foaming a bit, its fine. Just let it keep doing its thing.

Step 5

After 45 days you will notice that there are a lot of settlings on the bottom of the jug. It'll be a milky looking color. DO NOT SHAKE IT UP! Leave the settlings on the bottom. You want all that pretty pure wine that is on the top. The best way to get it without shaking things up is to syphon the wine out of the jug.

Tada! Homemade wine!
