Lose weight by eating the right foods...

Don't stop eating to lose weight (or save money), choose some healthier options that still taste great AND will help you keep the weight off. Here are some easy tips:
When you're cooking, try adding a little garlic to add flavor and help reduce fatty deposits. Buy a garlic press so you don't waste time mincing!

Try adding berries to yogurt, cereal, oatmeal or other dishes to sweeten (instead of sugar). Berries are good for you AND a tasty snack between meals. They can even help reduce your risk of several types of cancers!
Whole grains help you get your fiber intake and leave you feeling satisfied longer. Try oatmeal, whole wheat bread (for toast or sandwiches), or any "Ezekiel" breads (foodforlife.com or your local Trader Joe's).

Eat tofu - there are ways to make it taste like more than bland mush! Tofu, made from soybeans, is great for you. Especially if you're a vegetarian or vegan, this is a great meat/protein substitute and it's much cheaper than any meat options. It's a great source of protien, iron, omega-3 fatty acids, and many other nutrients.

Surprisingly, tofu takes on the taste of whatever you marinate or cook it with. I buy extra firm tofu and then mix equal parts soy sauce and olive oil and a bit of honey to marinate my tofu in for an hour or more. It's an easy teriyaki sauce that tastes great when you bake, roast, or saute it. Add any kind of vegetables to make a great stir-fry! (I eat it over brown rice for a guilt-free meal.)

Get creative with beans. Beans are a great source of protein and fiber and are actually a complex carbohydrate, helping provide stable energy throughout the day. Black beans over brown rice, served with salsa and avocado provide a tasty meal. Or look up easy recipes for Cuban black beans or curried rice and lentils. Spices like curry, cumin, and others add lots of healthy flavor to lentils and beans. Buying beans by the bag instead of the can takes a bit more time to prepare, but are much cheaper. I often prepare a large portion of beans or lentils and then freeze appropriate portions for meals at a later date. (Just don't forget they're in the freezer!)
