Miss Oregon Danijela Krystic Father Facing Deportation
The father of 2008 Miss Oregon winner Danijela Krystic is facing possible deportation.
The father of 2008 Miss Oregon winner Danijela Krystic is facing possible deportation, according to yesterday’s report on Oregon Fox 12. Milenko Krystic entered the United States in 1998 as a refugee. He and his families were Bosnian Serbs from the former Yugoslavia seeking protection and a new start in the United States.
However, it appears that Krystic falsified his application for his green card by alleging that he had not served in the military, which he had. It was later revealed that he had served in a military unit that has since been found by the International Criminal Court for war crimes. Krystic and his lawyer have since admitted that he had been a member of this unit but was not a participant in the war crimes.
The Serbian military unit that Milenko Krystic had been a member of was the Zvornik Brigade. Some members of the Zvornik Brigade were brought before the International Criminal Court in 2003 for the killing of thousands of civilians in the town of Srebrenica. It was discovered that Krystic had at one time been a member of this brigade when immigration officials matched up his information with a list of members of the military unit.
Miss Oregon’s father had faced an indictment due to this charge two years ago which was dismissed by a judge, but this dismissal has been overturned by an appellate court.
Danijela Krystic was crowned in June 2008 as Miss Oregon at the annual state beauty pageant. She is 24 years of age.
