Do you cringe when you think of the word 'exercise'? For some people, it isn't the dread of exercising, but the dislike of some forms of exercise. To stick with a fitness program, you have to find something you actually enjoy. When you enjoy an activity you won't think of it as a chore. Dancing is a great overall exercise. It can be done in the comfort of your home and doesn't cost any money to do. There are many benefits to starting a dance fitness program.

No Special Equipment Required

You no longer have the excuse you can't afford the equipment for proper exercise. Dance requires no special or expensive equipment. You can dance to songs you sing or you can turn on the radio. I like to make customized cd's that start out with slow songs for warm-up and progress to upbeat songs and then back to slow songs to cool down. It doesn't matter what you dance to. Dancing is a completely free form of cardio-exercise.

No Gym Memberships or Partners Required

The great thing about being able to dance to fitness is no partners are required. You can dance alone in the privacy of your home and at any time. You do not have to drive to the gym and wait on a partner to help with the routine. You don't have to pay expensive membership fees. If you are a member at a gym and finances get tight, you often get out of your exercise routine if you can't go to the gym. This won't happen when you are dancing in the privacy of your home.

Building Your Body Strength

Regardless of your current fitness level, you can dance to fitness. In the beginning, you can start out with slower songs and movements. Eventually you can build up to faster songs and more rigorous dancing. You will be amazed at how quickly your body will start to get into shape. Dancing is a great way to reduce stress while becoming more fit.

Building Balance and Stamina

As you dance, you will learn to balance better. You don't have to have formal dance training to dance to fitness. Simply make up your own moves as you go. Listen to the music and just move and dance around. You can try out new steps that you've seen on the television or videos. There are many forms of dance from ballet style to hip hop and even tap dancing. Choose what suits you best or combine a couple different styles for your routine. The key is that you are moving and becoming more active and in a fun way. This means you'll tend to stick with exercise more so than with other forms. You can customize your routine to fit your age and fitness level, too.

Increase Metabolic Rate

If you can get your heart rate going, sweat some and move during dance it is an excellent way to get your metabolic rate motivated and going. Expert fitness instructors will tell you that after a good work-out, our bodies burn more calories for a couple of hours. Now think about the advantage of dancing for fun and burning more calories after you've ended your daily routine.

Instead of going for a walk in the cold or skipping a walk because of rain, you can spend fifteen or more minutes in the morning dancing as part of your routine before work. By the time you get to work, you will already be burning the breakfast calories.

Get Everyone Involved

Dancing is such fun and you don't have to worry if you look silly. Just get in tune with the music and move your body. Dancing is a great activity to share with your partner, spouse and even your kids. Everyone gets to exercise without even realizing you are working out. Dance to fitness can be an example and routine you set for your entire family. Not only will you benefit from dancing but everyone will have fun. You may even become a good dancer in the process of getting fit.
