The most profitable websites available are Associated Content, Helium and Bukisa.  Each of these sites has something different to offer.

Associated Content

Associated Content (AC) is the first place you should market your writing.  This is because they offer up-front payments of up to $4.00 for an article.  AC does not offer up-front payment for certain kinds of articles, like news pieces.  The site prefers “evergreen” articles, those that will continue to be popular over time.  Writing about the latest tabloid story will not get you an up-front payment, although it may get you quite a few article views.

Bukisa

For article views, no one pays better than Bukisa.  You can make three times the revenue you would make from AC when it comes to page views.  Bukisa also appears to be more popular with the younger crowd, making it a good place for upcoming news items or youth oriented material.  Bukisa does not offer up-front payments, so it should be your second choice when it comes to publishing.  If you are not sure about the best place for your article, try submitting it to AC first. Helium

Helium is a little harder to gauge because they do not reveal their pay scale details.  More popular articles will pay better at Helium and that is all you can say for sure.  The site recently revealed that the highest paying categories for writing are Personal Finance (Personal & Student Loans and Credit Card Debt), Pharmaceuticals (Medicine Development), Cosmetic Procedures (under Style & Beauty) and Car Buying.

Helium works differently than other sites.  You cannot randomly publish an article on any given topic; you must first choose from a list of titles to write.  Helium offers a $1 bonus if you are the first to write to a title (empty title bonus).  You will also receive a $1 bonus if you write a Marketplace article that does not win the competition (kill fee).  Marketplace articles can win you anywhere from $20 to $200, so it is worth your effort to compete for this cash.

Rewriting

Another way to maximize your revenue is through rewriting.  This is a technique in which you take the information contained in your original article and write it again from an entirely new perspective.  In thisway, you save yourself the time of researching a new topic for another article. This technique is used effectively when you take the Marketplace article you wrote for Helium and rewrite it for AC.  For this to work, you must first check AC for similar articles.  They do not offer up-front payments on content they already have. If AC already has the article, you can still publish it to Bukisa.
