In all my years in the legal profession, I was constantly amazed by the attire of some of the litigants. Whether you are right or wrong, guilty or innocent, the courtroom is a serious place where you need to show as much respect as possible. One way to do this is to dress appropriately.

In all my years in the legal profession, I was constantly amazed by the attire of some of the litigants. Whether you are right or wrong, guilty or innocent, the courtroom is a serious place where you need to show as much respect as possible. One way to do this is to dress appropriately.  You should try to look your best.

If yours is a serious case, discuss your attire with your attorney. A suit is best for either sex. Remove hats and over coats once you enter the courtroom. Make sure your hair is done.
MEN - Of course a suit is the best idea, however, the minimum dress code for men is a pair of slacks, button up shirt and tie. Even if you do not know how to tie it, you can buy a clip on. The optimal dress for men is a three piece suit in a neutral color and a tie. Make sure your tie reaches your belt.
WOMEN - The best attire is a suit with pants or a skirt. If you were a skirt or dress nylons are a must, no bare legs, not even in the summer. No low cut revealing blouses. Slacks and a nice blouse is acceptable.
No jeans, no torn clothing, no bare legs, no bare feet, no work boots, no cleavage, no rear cracks. I say this because I have seen all of these things and more in the courtroom.  The courtroom is not a place to show off your artistic side, it is a place to show the respect you have for the law, cover your tatoos if possible.

I have seen way to many flip flops in court rooms. This advice is great!
