How to Get Rid of "The Monster Under The Bed"
There's a Monster Under My Bed
Childhood nightmares. At least if you are the child. However, for mommy and daddy it truly is a nightmare. Being awakened at 2:00 AM by your child screaming in fear about the monster under his/her bed, taking 2 hours to get them back to sleep and one more hour before the alarm goes off is no fun for anyone. And it happens night after night.
This scenario is so real to children and parents there was a movie based on this theme called "Little Monsters" with Howie Mandel and Fred Savage. There are some things to keep in mind if your little one wakes up screaming because he/she has monsters in his/her room.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
If your child has discovered monsters in his/her room, you must first understand they are very real to him/her. Be as patient as possible but truly show concern and understanding. There are some ways you and your child can get rid of those monsters together. Make your child part of the solution. That way they know together you are getting rid of them.
Some children see monsters under their bed while others find them in the closet. Make a monster spray to get rid of them. Buy a special spray bottle maybe in some bold colors. Have your child put water in the bottle halfway up and you add Febreeze or some other not so bad smelling deodorizer. Take your child to the bedroom and spray a few shots in the closet and under the bed (which ever place you child is most frightened). Also make sure to spray the floor under the doorways into your child's room. Make sure you hand the bottle to the child to perform the last sprays. That way he/she knows every scary place is covered with the monster spray. You may have to do this a few nights so there is fresh monster spray for that night.
Another way to rid your child's room of monsters is to place a Bible with your child under the bed or in the closet to protect him/her. Tell your child that monsters do not like the Bible because it makes them afraid.
Lastly, if your child has a punching bag on a stand or something else suitable to that, put a hat on top of it and a coat around the punching bag and sit it in the corner of your child's room. Explain that monsters do not come out in the open when there is someone in the room. Give your child's new protector a name such as Mr. Bean or Mr. Safety or something you think your child might relate to.
